Job summary

Optimum Consulting is seeking an experienced Construction Manager to join its Senior Leadership Team, taking accountability for the operational performance and delivery of multiple construction projects. Lead design management, planning and delivery, ensuring safety, time, and budget adherence.

You will shape strategy, build high-performing teams and drive outcomes across a diverse project pipeline, rather than managing a single job.

Qualifications

• Minimum 15 years' relevant experience in commercial construction.
• Tertiary qualifications in Construction Management or related discipline.
• Proven experience as a Senior Project Manager, Project Director, Construction Manager or Operations Manager with a commercial construction head contractor.
• Demonstrated experience overseeing multiple projects and project teams concurrently.
• Strong commercial acumen across budgets, forecasting, procurement, variations and contractual risk.
• A practical, visible leadership style with a willingness to attend sites and support your teams.
• Strong communication, negotiation and stakeholder management skills.
• Experience working within ISO-certified quality, safety and environmental systems.
• Proficiency in construction management and programming systems such as Procore, HammerTech, Jobpac, Microsoft Office and Microsoft Project (or comparable platforms).
• Current Australian driver licence and General Construction Induction Card

Responsibilities

• Oversee end to end delivery of the project portfolio, holding Project Managers and project teams accountable for outcomes, reporting and company standards.
• Maintain oversight of commercial and financial performance, including margin, cash flow, procurement, variations and claims.
• Provide oversight of head contracts, subcontracts and supplier agreements, acting as the key escalation point for contractual and commercial matters.
• Drive early identification and management of construction, design, commercial and operational risk, and monitor WHSEQ performance across the portfolio.
• Lead, mentor and develop Project Managers and project delivery teams, building capable and collaborative teams.
• Maintain strong relationships with clients, consultants and subcontractors, acting as a senior escalation point on major projects.
• Prepare and present monthly portfolio performance reporting to the Senior Leadership Team

Our client is a well established commercial construction company with a strong project portfolio and a reputation for quality delivery. They are seeking an experienced Construction Manager to join their Senior Leadership Team and take accountability for the operational performance and successful delivery of their construction projects.

About The Role

Reporting to the Director, the Construction Manager provides leadership, direction and oversight across design management, project planning and construction delivery, ensuring projects are completed safely, efficiently, on time and within approved commercial parameters. You will maintain visibility across all active projects, identify emerging risks early and step in where needed to protect project outcomes and keep delivery moving.

As a key member of the Senior Leadership Team, you will also contribute to company strategy, project pipeline planning, operational improvement and the long-term growth of the business.
