Job summary

Downer’s Power Systems business seeks an experienced Construction Manager to lead substation construction activities. You will ensure safe, on-time delivery within budget and quality standards, coordinating field teams, subcontractors, plant and materials to achieve milestones.

You will champion Zero Harm, manage client and stakeholder relations, and drive testing, commissioning and close-out with a practical, hands-on leadership style.

Qualifications

• 10+ years' construction experience, including at least 5 years in a supervisory or leading hand role.
• Experience supervising infrastructure, utilities, civil or energy construction works, with substation experience highly regarded.
• Strong knowledge of WHS legislation, construction safety and HSQE requirements.

Responsibilities

• Plan and coordinate day-to-day site operations, work fronts, labour, subcontractors, plant, equipment and materials.
• Monitor progress against scope, schedule, budget, productivity and quality requirements; provide updates.
• Verify works are completed in accordance with drawings, specs, permits and environmental obligations.
• Conduct site inspections and audits; address defects and non-conformances; support testing and project close-out.
• Coach and support field personnel while maintaining good client, crew and supplier relationships.

Job description

Downer's Power Systems business is seeking an experienced Construction Manager to provide frontline leadership across substation construction activities. You will be responsible for the safe, efficient and compliant delivery of allocated works, coordinating field teams, subcontractors, plant and materials to achieve project milestones.

This is a hands-on leadership opportunity where you will champion Zero Harm, maintain strong client and stakeholder relationships, and ensure work is delivered on time, within budget and to the required quality and environmental standards.

• Champion Downer's Zero Harm culture through visible leadership, pre-starts, toolbox talks, site inspections and proactive risk management
• Plan and coordinate day-to-day site operations, work fronts, labour, subcontractors, plant, equipment and materials
• Monitor progress against scope, schedule, budget, productivity and quality requirements, providing regular project updates and reports
• Verify works are completed in accordance with approved drawings, specifications, procedures, permits, SWMS and environmental obligations
• Conduct site inspections and audits, address defects and non-conformances, and support testing, commissioning and project close-out
• Coach and support field personnel while fostering effective relationships with clients, crews, suppliers and project stakeholders

What we are looking for

• You are an organised and safety-focused construction leader who can build effective teams, manage competing priorities and maintain clear standards in a changing project environment. You will bring:
• 10+ years' construction experience, including at least 5 years in a supervisory or leading hand role
• Experience supervising infrastructure, utilities, civil or energy construction works, with substation experience highly regarded
• A Certificate IV in Civil Construction Supervision, Frontline Management, Civil Construction, Construction Management or a similar qualification
• Strong knowledge of WHS legislation, construction safety and HSQE requirements
• Demonstrated experience leading field teams and managing subcontractors
• The ability to interpret drawings, specifications, scopes of work and construction documentation
• Strong planning, coordination, reporting, organisation and time-management skills
• A practical approach to resolving technical and operational issues while working effectively under pressure
• High Risk Work Licences relevant to the work being performed
