Job summary

Orion Project Consulting (OPC) is seeking an experienced FIFO Civil Inspector to join our Queensland team and rotate through transport, council works, water and regional development streams.

You will monitor construction activities, verify quality, safety and compliance, maintain accurate project records and support construction administration, guiding projects from start to finish and building toward senior inspection roles.

Qualifications

• 5–12 years of experience in civil infrastructure project delivery.
• Experience with QA and safety standards relevant to civil works.
• Excellent written report writing and site communication.

Responsibilities

• Ensure all construction works, materials and equipment comply with contract specifications and quality requirements.
• Monitor site activities, labour, plant and progress against the approved program with daily records.
• Ensure compliance with safety, environmental and heritage requirements, escalating issues promptly.
• Verify contractor QA requirements are in place prior to works and throughout construction.
• Support the project manager with assessments of variations and extensions of time.

The Opportunity

We’re looking for an experienced Civil Inspector to join our growing team and step straight into hands‑on civil infrastructure project delivery. As a FIFO Civil Inspector, you’ll work side‑by‑side with project managers and technical specialists, rotating through transport, council works, water and regional development streams.

You’ll be responsible for monitoring construction activities, verifying quality, safety and compliance requirements, tracking site progress, maintaining accurate project records and supporting the construction administration. You’ll contribute to high-quality project delivery from start to finish, gaining hands‑on experience with all stages of the project lifecycle and building the skills to progress into a senior inspector role.

Who You Are

• Certificate IV in Civil Construction Supervision or above is highly desirable
• Passionate about infrastructure and community impact

Key Responsibilities

• Ensure all construction works, materials and equipment comply with contract specifications, approved quality requirements and good construction practices.
• Monitor site activities, labour, plant and construction progress against the approved program, maintaining accurate daily records, progress reports and as‑constructed drawings.
• Ensure compliance with safety, environmental and Cultural Heritage requirements, promptly escalating any issues.
• Verify that all contractor quality assurance requirements are approved and in place prior to works commencing and throughout construction.
• Support the project manager with the assessment of variations and extensions of time, while ensuring project deliverables are achieved effectively and meet the clients expectations.

What We’re Looking For

• 5-12 years of experience in civil infrastructure project delivery, ideally in a client‑side or consultancy environment
• Strong understanding of construction processes
• Confident communicator who can engage with stakeholders, consultants, and contractors
• A proactive attitude and willingness to grow into leadership responsibilities

Desirable Qualifications & Experience

• Certificate III & IV in Civil Construction Supervision or above is highly desirable
• Experience with local government, TMR, or regional infrastructure projects
• Familiarity with construction contracts, specifications and quality assurance requirements relevant to civil infrastructure projects
