Job summary

GBA Consulting Engineers is seeking an experienced Civil Roadwork Inspector to undertake inspections of local and state road and infrastructure projects across the Isaac and Central Highlands Regional Council areas. This is a predominantly field-based role focusing on inspecting completed works, monitoring progress, collecting photographic evidence and maintaining inspection records.

You will work with project teams, contractors and clients, provide technical advice, review programs and quality

Qualifications

• At least 3 years' experience inspecting or supervising road construction projects.
• Strong knowledge of road construction standards and TMR guidelines.
• Ability to read contracts, specifications and drawings.
• Ability to work independently and manage inspections and travel.
• Keeps accurate records and provides clear photographic evidence.
• Holds a current Driver Licence and Construction White Card.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical advice during planning, construction and maintenance phases of road projects.
• Inspect completed works and review contractor quality systems and records.
• Review contractor programs and safety plans to ensure compliance.
• Develop surveillance and inspection plans and monitor progress.

About the Opportunity

GBA is seeking an experienced Civil Roadwork Inspectors to undertake inspections of local and state-delivered road and infrastructure projects across the Isaac and Central Highlands Regional Council areas.

This is a predominantly field-based role where you'll inspect completed works, monitor progress, collect photographic evidence, maintain inspection records, and report findings back to GBA Project Managers and Engineers. The role plays an important part in ensuring work is delivered at approved locations, generally in accordance with approved scopes and to an acceptable quality standard.

We're open to discussing the engagement arrangement that best suits both parties, including casual employment, independent contracting, or a permanent role for the right person.

What you will be doing

• Provide technical advice and practical support during the planning, construction and maintenance phases of road and infrastructure projects.
• Inspect completed works and review contractor quality systems and records, including specialised works such as asphalt and precast components, to ensure quality, compliance and contract requirements are being met.
• Review contractor programs, quality, environmental, safety and traffic management plans, identifying potential issues and helping ensure compliance with project requirements and workplace health and safety obligations.
• Apply sound project management, quality assurance and risk management practices, including developing and implementing surveillance and inspection plans.
• Monitor project progress and quality outcomes, helping to ensure works are completed safely, efficiently and to a high standard.
• Maintain accurate inspection records, site diaries, photographs, test results and project documentation, and prepare reports as required.
• Share your knowledge and experience by supporting, mentoring and developing graduate engineers and less experienced inspectors.
• Work closely with project teams, contractors and clients to identify issues early, resolve problems and keep projects moving.

About You

We're looking for someone who:

• Has at least 3 years' experience inspecting, supervising or overseeing all aspects of road construction and maintenance projects for local or state government as well as other infrastructure projects.
• Has a strong understanding of road construction and maintenance standards, including TMR specifications and maintenance guidelines as well as QRA’s DRFA guidelines.
• Has the ability to read and interpret technical documents such as contracts, specifications and drawings.
• Enjoys working independently and can confidently manage their own inspections, travel and workload.
• Takes pride in producing accurate records, clear reports and quality photographic evidence.
• Is comfortable using GPS equipment, cameras and everyday computer systems.
• Builds positive working relationships with councils, contractors and project teams.
• Has a practical, common-sense approach to problem solving and a keen eye for detail.
• Holds a current Driver Licence and Construction White Card.

Highly Regarded

• Strong computer skills, particularly in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and electronic file management.
• Current TMR Inspector prequalification at IR01 (Roadworks) Level 1 and/or IR02 (Roadworks) Level 2, or the ability to obtain the prequalification.
