Job summary

JV Recruitment Pty seeks a Construction Estimator to join our Melbourne-based team in Fawkner. You will develop precise construction estimates, perform take-offs, analyse drawings, and prepare competitive tender submissions for commercial and industrial projects.

Applicants should have at least 3 years’ estimating experience in Australian commercial/industrial construction, excel and estimating software proficiency, and the ability to manage multiple bids to deadlines.

Qualifications

• 3+ years estimating experience in Australian commercial or industrial construction.
• Ability to read and interpret architectural, structural and engineering drawings and specifications.
• Strong numerical, analytical and problem-solving skills with high attention to detail.
• Knowledge of local building codes, construction methodologies and market rates.
• Proven track record of managing multiple tenders and meeting deadlines.
• Excellent negotiation and interpersonal abilities to build contractor relationships.
• Proficient with Excel and dedicated construction estimating software.
• Valid Australian driver’s licence and a collaborative work approach.

Construction Estimator

Salary: $120,000 - $140,000 (Depending on experience)

Hours: Mon-Fri, 08:00 - 16:00

About the Role

Due to ongoing team growth, we are looking for a skilled and motivated Estimator to join our construction division. Partnering with Directors, Senior Project Managers, and key trade partners, you will drive the preparation of accurate, value-driven estimates and tenders across commercial and industrial builds. This position is ideal for a commercially sharp professional who thrives on detail and succeeds in a dynamic, deadline-driven construction setting.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop precise construction estimates, quantity take-offs, and competitive tender submissions.
• Analyse architectural, structural, and engineering documentation, plans, and technical specifications.
• Request, evaluate, and compare subcontractor and supplier quotes to assemble detailed trade packages.
• Spot cost risks, potential scope gaps, exclusions, and variations during the pre-construction phase.
• Oversee pricing databases and work alongside project management on procurement strategies and cost planning.
• Deliver value engineering options and cost-saving measures to optimise overall project budgets.
• Engage directly with trade contractors, vendors, design consultants, and project stakeholders.
• Perform on-site inspections and pre-bid site visits as required.

Required Experience & Skills

• Demonstrated background (ideally 3 years minimum) estimating within the Australian commercial or industrial construction sector.
• Proficiency in reading technical construction drawings, structural plans, and project specifications.
• High-level numerical, analytical, and problem-solving capabilities with keen attention to detail.
• Sound knowledge of local building codes, modern construction methodologies, and current market trade rates.
• Strong track record of managing multiple tenders simultaneously while strictly meeting bid deadlines.
• Excellent negotiation and interpersonal capabilities to build solid trade and client relationships.
• Strong software literacy, particularly with Microsoft Excel and dedicated construction estimating software.
• Valid Australian driver's licence and a self-driven, collaborative work approach.
