Job summary

Magden Constructions, based in Brisbane, is seeking a skilled Construction Estimator to join our team on a full-time basis. You will prepare detailed cost estimates for diverse projects, review plans and drawings, and support the bid process with comprehensive cost summaries.

You will work closely with project managers, architects and clients, applying advanced Excel skills and estimating software to ensure accurate, competitive pricing and successful project delivery.

Qualifications

• Proven experience as a Construction Estimator or in a similar estimating role - min 5 years.
• Strong knowledge of construction methods, materials, and labour practices.
• Certification or formal qualification in construction estimating or quantity surveying is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Prepare detailed and accurate cost estimates for construction projects.
• Review specifications, plans, and drawings to determine material and labour requirements.
• Conduct site inspections to identify cost implications and challenges.

About the role

Due to a growing portfolio of work, Magden Constructions is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Construction Estimator to join our team on a full-time basis. Based in our Head Office in Brisbane, this role is central to our project delivery success. As a Construction Estimator, you will be responsible for preparing detailed cost estimates for construction projects, working closely with project managers, architects, and clients.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare detailed and accurate cost estimates for construction projects of varying size and complexity
• Review project specifications, plans, and technical drawings to determine material and labour requirements
• Conduct site inspections and assessments to identify potential cost implications and project-specific challenges
• Obtain and analyse quotes from subcontractors, suppliers, and material vendors to ensure competitive pricing
• Develop comprehensive budgets and cost breakdowns for project proposals and tenders
• Collaborate with project managers, architects, and clients to clarify project requirements and scope
• Maintain detailed records and documentation of all estimates, quotations, and cost analyses
• Stay informed of current material prices, labour rates, and industry trends to ensure estimates remain competitive and accurate
• Support the bid process by preparing professional tender documents and cost summaries

What we're looking for

• Proven experience as a Construction Estimator or in a similar estimating role within the construction industry - min 5 years
• Strong knowledge of construction methods, materials, and labour practices relevant to building and civil works
• Proficiency with estimating software and tools
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, proficiency in AutoCAD and Revit would be advantageous
• Excellent attention to detail and the ability to produce accurate estimates with minimal errors
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to identify cost-saving opportunities
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, specifications, and contract documents
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to liaise effectively with internal teams and external stakeholders
• Certification or formal qualification in construction estimating, quantity surveying, or a related field is highly desirable
