Job summary

DFP Recruitment is seeking an experienced Estimator for a contract role with a Queensland Government client in Cairns. You will prepare accurate cost estimates, tender submissions and project specifications while analysing drawings and requirements to deliver compliant, competitive bids.

In this role you will work with internal teams, contractors and suppliers to identify risks and cost-saving opportunities, ensuring estimates align with policies and standards.

Qualifications

  • Experience in estimating, tender development, or construction.
  • Proficiency in estimation software and MS Office.
  • Ability to interpret drawings and specifications.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare detailed cost estimates and project specifications.
  • Develop and coordinate tender submissions.

  • Identify cost-saving opportunities and project risks.
  • Liaise with internal teams, contractors, suppliers and stakeholders.

Job description

DFP Recruitment is seeking an experienced Estimator for a contract opportunity with our valued Queensland Government client based in Cairns.

This is an excellent opportunity for a detail-oriented construction professional to contribute to the successful delivery of projects through the preparation of accurate cost estimates, tender submissions, and project specifications.

About the Role

As the Estimator, you will play a critical role in supporting project delivery by preparing and developing accurate estimates, tender documentation, and specifications. You will analyse project requirements, interpret technical drawings and documentation, and work collaboratively with stakeholders to ensure competitive, compliant, and high-quality tender submissions.

Key responsibilities include:
  • Preparing detailed cost estimates and project specifications
  • Developing and coordinating tender submissions
  • Analysing project requirements, drawings, and technical documentation
  • Identifying cost-saving opportunities and potential project risks
  • Liaising with internal teams, contractors, suppliers, and stakeholders
  • Ensuring estimates comply with organisational policies, industry standards, and client requirements
  • Supporting the delivery of projects through accurate forecasting and cost planning
About You

To be successful in this role, you will demonstrate:

  • Relevant qualifications or trade-based experience in estimating, tender development, construction, or a related field
  • Experience preparing cost estimates and tender documentation
  • Strong proficiency in estimation software and Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with strong attention to detail
  • Proven ability to interpret technical drawings, plans, and specifications
  • Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills
  • Excellent organisational and time management abilities
  • Knowledge of workplace health and safety requirements and relevant industry regulations
  • A current and valid driver's licence
Highly Regarded
  • Experience in tender preparation
  • Knowledge of procurement processes and practices
