Job summary

IFYS has an exciting opportunity for a Connecting Kin Coordinator in Sunshine Coast. This 12 month fixed-term part-time role (minimum 52 hour fortnight) is centrally located in Maroochydore with travel throughout the region.

The role supports children and young people under guardianship, applying trauma-informed and attachment-based practices while collaborating with families, the Department and other agencies.

Qualifications

• Bachelor-level or higher degree in a relevant field such as Child Protection or Social Work.
• Experience engaging with vulnerable families and young people.
• Knowledge of child protection and family support services.

Responsibilities

• Apply trauma-informed, attachment-based and therapeutic practices when engaging with children, young people and families
• Develop and maintain effective relationships with vulnerable families, identifying and engaging family members through family mapping and records
• Manage an allocated caseload of referrals from local Child Safety Service Centres, ensuring timely assessment, engagement, documentation and progression
• Apply understanding of complex family, cultural and community dynamics with appropriate intervention strategies and relevant legislation
• Develop and maintain functional working relationships with internal and external stakeholders, able to work autonomously and in a team
• Ensure timely maintenance of client and service records, work plans, reports and program data

About the opportunity

IFYS has an exciting opportunity for an experienced practitioner to join the Foster & Kinship Care Sunshine Coast team as a Connecting Kin Coordinator.

The role will work to support children and young people under 18 years of age who are subject to the custody or guardianship of the Department of Families, Seniors, Disability Services and Child Safety of Queensland, and who are not in the care of approved family members or would benefit from enhanced family connections.

Working collaboratively with internal IFYS stakeholders, the Department, families, and other relevant government departments, the Connecting Kin Coordinator applies intervention strategies to support the needs of children, young people and families.

Key responsibilities

• Apply trauma-informed, attachment-based and therapeutic practices when engaging with children, young people and families
• Develop and maintain effective relationships with vulnerable families, identifying and engaging family members through family mapping, searching departmental records and other relevant information resources
• Manage an allocated caseload of referrals from local Child Safety Service Centres, ensuring timely assessment, engagement, documentation and progression of cases in accordance with program requirements
• Apply an understanding of complex family, cultural and community dynamics, together with appropriate family intervention strategies and relevant legislation
• Develop and maintain functional working relationships with internal and external stakeholders, demonstrating the ability to work autonomously and collaboratively within a team
• Ensure timely and accurate maintenance of client and service records, work plans, reports and program data to meet administrative, reporting and compliance requirements

Requirements of the role

• Tertiary undergraduate degree or higher qualification in Child Protection, Human Services, Social Work or related discipline required
• Demonstrated experience in engaging and working with vulnerable families and young people
• Experience working within child protection and family support services
• Strong communication and relationship building skills
• Ability to analyse information and writing initial assessment reports

Must hold or be willing to obtain in successful

• Valid Queensland Driver’s License with no restrictions
• Queensland Working with Children’s Check (Paid Blue Card)
• Licensed Care Suitability Screen (LC2)
• Ability to provide two references from recent employers (including your current employer)
• National Crime Check (a new check will be completed through IFYS systems)
