Impel Management seeks a seasoned compliance and operations professional to join our Sydney CBD firm in a hybrid role. You will own the AML/CTF program end-to-end while rolling up your sleeves to keep a busy practice running smoothly.

You’ll embed and mature AML/CTF governance, support the Chief Operations Manager on ad hoc projects, and drive process improvements across the firm. A practical, hands-on attitude is essential.

• Ensure compliance with all legal, regulatory and professional obligations, including AML/CTF requirements.
• Maintain and develop appropriate compliance and risk management frameworks.
• Provide advice and support on AML/CTF queries across the business.
• Support the AMLCO, including drafting and reviewing risk assessments for clients and matters.
• Deliver AML/CTF training across the business.
• Oversee the annual renewal of the Law Society Limitation of Liability scheme.
• Undertake internal reporting and fulfil external reporting requirements.
• Support firm-wide strategic projects, including process automation and the adoption of AI tools.
• Drive AI-related initiatives to improve efficiency and resource utilisation.
• Renew and administer insurance policies.
• Manage building operations, liaising with the landlord and other suppliers.
• Manage library and other knowledge-related subscriptions and renewals.

This is a hybrid role across compliance and hands-on support to the Chief Operations Manager for an established law firm. It would suit someone who likes owning a compliance framework end to end but is equally happy rolling up their sleeves to keep a busy firm running smoothly.

A big part of this role will be embedding and maturing the AML/CTF program alongside its existing obligations. On the operations side, you will be the Chief Operations Manager's right hand on ad hoc projects, firm administration and process improvement. No two weeks will look the same.

Key responsibilities: Compliance & Risk

• Ensure compliance with all legal, regulatory and professional obligations, including AML/CTF requirements
• Maintain and develop appropriate compliance and risk management frameworks
• Provide advice and support on AML/CTF queries across the business
• Support the AMLCO, including drafting and reviewing risk assessments for clients and matters
• Deliver AML/CTF training across the business
• Oversee the annual renewal of the Law Society Limitation of Liability scheme

Experience:

• 3 to 5+ years in a compliance role, with hands on knowledge of AML/CTF from banking, fintech or professional services
• Advanced MS Excel skills
• Meticulous attention to detail, with sound judgement on when to escal
• Confident communicating with partners and staff at every level, including pushing back tactfully
• Highly organised: able to juggle BAU compliance with shifting operational priorities
• A practical, roll-up-your-sleeves attitude and genuine interest in improving how things are done
• Ability to own projects end to end
