Job summary

Magenta Community Services - Toowoomba QLD is seeking an Experienced Female Support Worker to assist two female participants with highly complex needs using a 2:1 support model. You will deliver hands-on, person-centred care, support mobility, and implement PBS plans in a multidisciplinary team.

Essential duties include non-verbal communication, behaviour cue-reading, and community access, with a strong emphasis on overnight shifts and flexible availability.

Qualifications

• Experience supporting people with complex behaviours and high support needs.
• Experience supporting participants who experience seizures and respond appropriately.
• Confidently implement PBS plans and restrictive practice protocols.
• Experience de-escalating behaviours and managing escalated cases.
• Read and respond to behavioural cues; support non-verbal communication.
• Remain calm, professional and consistent in challenging situations.
• Advocate for dignity, rights and person-centred support.
• Reliable overnight availability; additional daytime/evening/sleepover availability.

The Role

We’re seeking experienced Support Workers in Toowoomba to support two female participants with highly complex behaviours and significant support needs, delivered through a 2:1 support model.

In this role, you’ll:

• Deliver hands-on, person-centred care including all aspects of daily living (personal hygiene, meal preparation, cooking, cleaning, domestic tasks).
• Assist with mobility, transfers, lifting, positioning, and use of mobility aids.
• Implement Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) Plans, restrictive practice protocols (environmental & physical), and apply de-escalation strategies as needed.
• Provide non-verbal communication supports (e.g., key word signing), behaviour cue-reading, and proactive support.
• Support participants to access the community including social, recreational, and medical activities.
• Assist with skill development to build independence, confidence, and decision-making.
• Maintain a safe environment by following risk assessments, safety protocols, and working collaboratively with allied health and families.
• Work as part of a multidisciplinary team, including completing documentation, handovers, and contributing to care planning.
• Be flexible across a range of shifts, including active shifts, sleepovers, evenings, and weekends.

Important Availability Requirement

Active overnight availability is our TOP PRIORITY for this role.

We are specifically looking for applicants who can reliably commit to active overnight shifts, as well as providing some availability for day, evening and sleepover shifts.

Applicants who are only available for day shifts or who cannot commit to active overnight work are unlikely to be successful.

What You’ll Bring

Essential:

• Proven experience supporting people with complex behaviours and/or high support needs.
• Experience supporting participants who experience seizures, including the ability to recognise and respond appropriately to seizure activity.
• Confidence implementing Positive Behaviour Support Plans and restrictive practice protocols.
• Experience with behaviour de-escalation and managing complex or escalated behaviours.
• Ability to read and respond to behavioural cues and support non-verbal communication.
• Ability to remain calm, professional and consistent in challenging situations.
• Strong understanding of participant dignity, choice, rights and person-centred support.
• Reliable availability for active overnight shifts, with additional availability across day, evening and sleepover shifts.

Desirable / Highly Regarded:

• Certificate III (or higher) in Individual Support / Disability / Community Services or related field
• MAYBO training
• Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) certification
• Experience with behaviour de-escalation, restrictive practices, or injury prevention
• Experience working within a 2:1 support model.
