Job summary

Empower Living Pty Ltd in Canberra is seeking a qualified Complex Mental Health Support Worker to join our local team, providing person-centred supports to NDIS participants with psychosocial disabilities. You will support daily routines, safety, documentation, and coordination with families, Care Managers, clinicians and other providers, while upholding privacy and boundaries.

Qualifications

• Applicants must hold a recognised mental health or community services qualification.
• Qualifications may include Cert IV Mental Health, Diploma Mental Health, Diploma Community Services.
• Australian or NZ qualifications welcomed; other countries with evidence of equivalence considered.
• Valid Australian working rights are required.

Responsibilities

• Provide individualised support to participants with complex mental health needs.
• Support daily routines, household tasks, appointments and community access.
• Follow individual support plans, risk assessments and behaviour support plans.
• Develop coping strategies and emotional regulation skills with participants.
• Maintain accurate notes, incident reports and documentation.
• Collaborate with families, carers, Care Managers, clinicians and providers.
• Uphold privacy, boundaries and duty of care.

What you’ll be doing

• Providing individualised support to participants with complex mental health needs
• Supporting daily routines, household tasks, appointments and community access
• Following individual support plans, risk assessments and behaviour support plans
• Supporting participants to develop coping strategies and emotional regulation skills
• Recognising changes in a participant’s mental health and escalating concerns appropriately
• Responding calmly and sensitively during challenging situations or periods of distress
• Promoting participant choice, independence, dignity and community participation
• Supporting participants to work towards their NDIS goals
• Maintaining accurate shift notes, incident reports and other required documentation
• Working collaboratively with families, carers, Care Managers, clinicians and other service providers
• Maintaining professional boundaries, privacy and confidentiality

Qualifications

Applicants must hold a recognised qualification in Mental Health, Psychology, Social Work, Nursing, Counselling, Community Services, Disability Support or a related field.

Relevant qualifications may include:

• Certificate IV in Mental Health
• Certificate IV in Mental Health Peer Work
• Diploma of Mental Health
• Diploma of Community Services
• Certificate III or IV in Individual Support or Disability, together with demonstrated complex mental health experience
• Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Social Work, Counselling, Nursing, Occupational Therapy or another relevant human services field

Qualifications obtained in Australia or New Zealand are welcomed. Qualifications obtained in other countries will also be considered where the applicant can provide evidence that the qualification is recognised as equivalent to an Australian qualification.

Essential requirements

• Current NDIS Worker Screening clearance, or willingness to obtain
• Current ACT Working with Vulnerable People registration, or willingness to obtain
• Current National Police Check
• Current First Aid and CPR certificates, or willingness to obtain
• NDIS Worker Orientation Module certificate
• Current Australian driver’s licence
• Reliable vehicle with current registration and comprehensive insurance
• Ability to travel within the Canberra region
