Job summary

Nillumbik Shire Council is seeking a Community Safety Officer - Local Laws to educate, investigate and enforce State and Local Government requirements across a broad range of safety functions within the Community Safety and Resilience Department.

The role focuses on delivering a customer-focused, education-first approach and building positive relationships with residents while ensuring adherence to legislation and local laws.

Qualifications

• Proficiency in applying standardised procedures, Acts and regulations.
• Ability to interpret policies and legislate appropriately.
• Experience engaging with the public and other staff.

Responsibilities

• Educate residents on Local Laws and comply with State requirements.
• Investigate and enforce local and state legislation within community safety scope.
• Support Domestic Animal Management, parking/traffic duties, school crossing supervision, litter control, and graffiti reduction.

• Band 4A salary of $76,321.29 per annum plus 12% super and annual leave loading.
• Permanent full time Position
• Access to monthly RDOs
• Flexible working arrangements available - balance life and work
• 16 weeks (pro rata) parental leave and generous personal and carers leave entitlements.

About the role:

Working within the Community Safety and Resilience Department, forming part of Council's broader Corporate Services Directorate, you will deliver a customer-focused, education-first approach to compliance, building positive relationships with residents while ensuring adherence to relevant legislation and Council local laws.

As a Community Safety Officer - Local Laws, you will educate, investigate and enforce State and Local Government legislative requirements across a broad range of community safety functions. This diverse role contributes to the effective delivery of;

• Local Laws
• Domestic Animal Management as required
• Parking and traffic management
• School Crossing supervision and patrols
• Litter Management; and
• Graffiti Reduction

What you will bring to the role:

• Practical experience in the use of the following software: Microsoft, and Pathway
• Proficiency in the application of standardised procedures, practices, Acts and
• Regulations and an understanding of relevant precedents, and previous decisions.
• Understanding of and ability to interpret and apply appropriate policies, legislation and regulations.
• Thorough knowledge and understanding of the function of the position within its organisation context of council policy, local laws and precedent relating to the application of this legislation in a community context.
• Demonstrated ability to gain cooperation and assistance from members of the public and other employees in the Community Safety and Resilience Department.
