Job summary

Sutherland Shire Council is seeking a Public Relations and Media Officer to support strategic communications, create engaging content, and boost community engagement across channels. Qualifications

• Experience working in communications, media, public relations or a similar environment.
• Strong writing skills with the ability to tailor content for different audiences and platforms.
• Experience creating engaging content across traditional and digital channels.
• Excellent stakeholder engagement and relationship-building skills.
• Strong organisational and time management abilities with the capacity to manage competing priorities.
• An understanding of media relations, news values and what makes a story newsworthy.
• A collaborative approach and the ability to work effectively within a politically aware environment.
• A solution-focused mindset with a commitment to continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

• Creating engaging content for a variety of channels, including media releases, speeches, social media, digital communications and marketing campaigns.
• Assisting with media monitoring and identifying opportunities to promote Council initiatives.
• Supporting public relations activities that strengthen community awareness and trust.
• Helping coordinate stakeholder engagement and communication projects.
• Collaborating with teams across Council to develop clear, accurate and audience-focused messaging.
• Contributing to the successful delivery of communication campaigns and organisational priorities.
• Supporting day-to-day operations within a busy and professional communications environment.
