Job summary

Cloncurry Shire Council is seeking a practical, community-minded Local Laws Officer to join our Infrastructure & Environment team. This role combines community education, investigations and fieldwork to address local concerns, promote responsible animal ownership and help keep public spaces safe and well managed.

You will investigate complaints, conduct patrols and inspections, prepare accurate records and support enforcement action within relevant legislation and Council delegations.

Qualifications

• Unrestricted C class driver's licence required.
• General Construction Induction (White) Card required.
• Tertiary qualification in land conservation and management, or substantial relevant experience.
• Chainsaw qualifications covering operation and maintenance.
• ACDC chemical accreditation, or the ability to obtain it.
• Q fever testing/vaccination, and tetanus and hepatitis B vaccination, as listed in the position description.

Responsibilities

• Provide advice, education and compliance services across animal management, nuisance control and Council’s local laws.
• Investigate complaints, patrols and inspections, prepare accurate records and support enforcement action within relevant legislation and Council delegations.
• Care for impounded animals and assist with pest animal control, biosecurity activities, straying stock and stock route maintenance.
• Assist with ongoing community engagement and education.
