Job summary

North Burnett Regional Council is seeking an enthusiastic Community Development Officer to strengthen wellbeing, resilience, inclusion and liveability across the North Burnett region. This permanent full-time role is based in Gayndah with a 9-day fortnight and a salary up to $83,439.26 plus 12% superannuation.

You will work with community organisations, service providers and government agencies to deliver community programs, engage stakeholders and administer grants, contributing to a thriving

North Burnett Regional Council is seeking an enthusiastic and community-focused Community Development Officer to help strengthen community wellbeing, resilience, inclusion and liveability across the North Burnett region.

Position Details

• Work type: Permanent Full-time


• Salary Range: QLGIA (Stream A, Level 4) up to $83,439.26 + 12% Superannuation


• Location: Gayndah (other locations negotiable within the North Burnett Region)


• Schedule: 9-day fortnight

About the Role

In this rewarding role, you will connect and work alongside community organisations, service providers, businesses, government agencies and Council departments to strengthen social connection and wellbeing, resilience and local capacity across the North Burnett region.

This role has a strong emphasis on building partnerships and working collaboratively with stakeholders and plays a key role administering grant programs, facilitating community engagement activities, and the delivery of Council initiatives and events.

Key responsibilities

• Planning, delivering and evaluating community development programs, initiatives and events.


• Applying contemporary community development principles to support community led-initiatives and sustainable outcomes using asset-based community development approaches.


• Building strong partnerships with community organisations, government agencies, service providers and local leaders.


• Coordinating Council’s Community Grants Program and Regional Arts Development Fund (RADF).


• Designing and delivering community consultation and engagement activities.


• Identifying and pursuing external funding opportunities and managing funded projects.


• Assisting with the delivery of Council’s major events including arts and cultural activities and Citizenship Ceremonies.


• Preparing reports, plans and recommendations to support community aspirations and Council objectives.

About You

We are seeking a passionate community development professional who enjoys building relationships, bringing people together and helping communities thrive.

To be successful in this role, you will bring

• Demonstrated experience in community development, community engagement and supporting community‑led initiatives.


• Strong stakeholder engagement and partnership‑building skills.


• Excellent written, verbal and presentation skills.


• Proven project and event management experience.


• Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines.


• Experience preparing reports, funding applications and program evaluations.


• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and corporate systems.


• A collaborative, proactive and positive approach to teamwork.

Qualifications & Requirements

• Current C Class Driver’s Licence


• Positive Notice Blue Card


• Relevant tertiary qualification or equivalent combination of experience and study.


• Minimum three years’ experience in a similar role.


• Ability to travel throughout the North Burnett region and work outside standard business hours when required.


• IAP2 Certificate of Engagement, or willingness to obtain within an agreed timeframe.
