Job summary

Evolution Mining's Underground Communications Technician role at Northparkes focuses on hands-on maintenance and improvement of underground communications systems, including leaky feeder, optical fibre, Wi‑Fi, and CCTV. The ideal candidate has a trade qualification in Electrical/Auto-Electrical/Communications Technology, ACMA Open Cabling Registration, and experience with wireless networks.

Qualifications

• Trade qualification in Electrical, Auto-Electrical, or Communications Technology.
• ACMA Open Cabling Registration; endorsements in optical fibre and structured cabling desirable.
• Experience with wireless networks, digital two-way systems, or leaky feeder infrastructure.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills; configuring hardware and networks.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities; collaborative approach.
• Underground mining experience is not essential; training in optical fibre and CCTV will be provided.

Reporting to the Underground Electrical Team Leader, the Underground Communications Technician will play a hands‑on role maintaining and improving the reliability of our underground communications systems. This new role offers the opportunity to take ownership of key infrastructure while gaining exposure to advanced mining technologies.

Key responsibilities include:

• Installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting leaky feeder, optical fibre, Wi-Fi, and CCTV systems.
• Ensuring reliable connectivity to support safety, operations, and emergency response.
• Developing and documenting work instructions and preventative maintenance plans.
• Supporting system upgrades, configuration, and integration of new technologies.
• Providing training and technical support to crews across site.
• Committing to maintaining health, safety, and security standards and principles within the workplace.
• Demonstrating behaviours aligned with the Evolution Mining values.

About you

The ideal candidate will hold a trade qualification in Electrical, Auto-Electrical, or Communications Technology, along with a current driver’s licence. You will bring experience working with wireless networks, digital two‑way systems, or leaky feeder infrastructure, and possess ACMA Open Cabling Registration, with endorsements in optical fibre and structured cabling considered desirable. Strong troubleshooting and problem‑solving skills are essential, particularly in configuring hardware and networks. Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities, combined with a collaborative approach, will support success in this role. While previous underground mining experience is highly regarded, it is not essential, and training in optical fibre and CCTV systems will be provided.
