Job summary

UNSW is seeking a Communications Officer (Internal) to provide dedicated internal communications support for major university initiatives, organisational change and sensitive matters. You will work within Corporate Communications to deliver clear, timely messaging across internal channels and staff audiences.

The role will initially focus on communications related to UNSW's Enterprise Agreement bargaining process, with opportunities to contribute to other university-wide initiatives and change

Qualifications

• A relevant tertiary qualification in communications, marketing, journalism or related discipline, or equivalent experience.
• Demonstrated experience delivering communications for significant organisational initiatives or change within a large environment.
• Experience using multiple channels and platforms to maximise audience reach and engagement.
• Exceptional writing and editing skills with the ability to tailor messages to diverse audiences.
• Strong stakeholder management and ability to work with senior leaders and subject matter experts.

Responsibilities

• Provide dedicated internal communications support for major university initiatives and change programs.
• Develop, edit and distribute high-quality internal communications content (Inside UNSW, staff emails, scripts).
• Ensure messaging is accurate, relevant and consistent across internal channels.
• Advise stakeholders on the most effective channels and approaches for staff communication.
• Coordinate meetings, approvals and publishing schedules to meet timelines.
• Analyse performance data to continually improve internal communications impact.

Job description

• Duration: 6 Months (with possibility of extension)
• Remuneration: $118,483 - $128,233 (depending on experience) + 17% super + leave loading
• Location: Kensington, NSW (Hybrid work arrangement available)

Why Your Role Matters:

As Communications Officer (Internal), you will provide dedicated communications support for significant University initiatives, organisational change and other complex or sensitive matters.

Working within the Corporate Communications team, you will work closely with the Communications Manager (Internal) and Communications Manager (People & Culture) to coordinate and deliver communication and engagement activities that keep staff informed, supported and engaged. You will develop clear, timely and accessible communications, using appropriate internal channels to support major University priorities and periods of significant change.

The role will initially focus on communications and engagement activities associated with UNSW's Enterprise Agreement bargaining process, alongside other University-wide initiatives and organisational change projects as required.

The Communications Officer (Internal) will report to the Communications Manager (Internal) and has no direct reports.

Your focus:

• Supporting the delivery of internal communications and engagement activities for significant University initiatives, organisational change and other complex or sensitive matters, including Enterprise Agreement bargaining communications.
• Developing, editing and distributing high-quality communications content, including Inside UNSW articles, all-staff emails, video scripts and other internal communications materials.
• Ensuring accuracy, relevance, and consistency of messaging across the University's internal communications channels.
• Advising stakeholders on internal communications and the most effective channels to deliver timely, targeted and engaging messages to staff.
• Coordinating stakeholder meetings, communication approvals and publishing schedules to ensure communications are delivered within agreed timeframes.
• Analysing communication performance data and insights to continually improve the effectiveness and impact of UNSW's internal communications channels.

Who You Are:

We're looking for a great communicator with experience delivering internal communications across a range of channels and platforms, with the following skills and experience:

• A relevant tertiary qualification with demonstrated experience in communications, marketing, journalism or a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
• Demonstrated experience delivering communications for significant organisational initiatives, organisational change, or other complex and sensitive matters within a large and complex environment.
• Experience using a range of communications channels and platforms, with the ability to select and optimise channels to maximise audience reach and engagement.
• Exceptional writing and editing skills, with a strong understanding of target audiences and the ability to deliver clear, high-impact messaging.
• Demonstrated ability to translate complex information into clear, engaging and accessible communications for diverse stakeholder groups.
• Strong stakeholder management and relationship-building skills, including experience working effectively with senior leaders and subject matter experts.
