Job summary

Zinfra is seeking an experienced Commissioning Lead to join our Projects & Construction team. You will guide commissioning strategies from planning through handover, coordinating across engineering, construction and operations to ensure safe, compliant transition of gas facilities and pipelines.

This role requires strong stakeholder engagement, risk management and a practical, proactive approach to continuous improvement, with a commitment to safety and quality across assets.

Qualifications

  • Significant experience in gas transmission, gas distribution, utilities or related infrastructure.
  • Experience planning and coordinating commissioning activities for high-pressure gas facilities and pipelines.
  • Strong knowledge of commissioning processes including pressure testing, isolations, purging and handover.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings and technical documentation.
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement and technical writing capabilities.

We are looking for an experienced Commissioning Lead to join our Projects & Construction team. In this role, you'll bring together technical expertise, stakeholder engagement and operational leadership to support the successful delivery of critical gas infrastructure projects.

Reporting to the Operational Engineering Manager, you'll play a key role in planning and coordinating commissioning, pre-commissioning and pipeline inline inspection (ILI) activities. Working closely with project teams, operational stakeholders, contractors and asset owners, you'll help ensure projects transition safely and effectively from construction through to operation.

About the Role

As our Commissioning Lead, you'll provide technical guidance throughout the project lifecycle, helping shape commissioning strategies from early project planning through to operational handover.

You'll work collaboratively across engineering, construction, operations and project delivery teams to ensure commissioning activities are carefully planned, appropriately resourced and executed in line with industry standards and business requirements.

Key areas of responsibility include:

Commissioning Planning & Delivery
  • Develop commissioning plans, procedures, schedules and completion documentation.
  • Coordinate pre-commissioning and commissioning activities across gas facilities and pipelines.
  • Support project teams through design reviews and commissioning readiness assessments.
  • Facilitate safe and efficient transition of assets into operation.
  • Partner with key stakeholders to identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
Pipeline Inline Inspection (ILI) & Pigging
  • Develop and coordinate project-specific ILI programs.
  • Build strong working relationships with specialist vendors and operational teams.
  • Support the successful planning and execution of pigging activities.
  • Facilitate communication and alignment between project stakeholders throughout inspection programs.
Health, Safety & Risk Management
  • Foster a positive and proactive safety culture.
  • Lead commissioning risk assessments, site briefings and toolbox discussions.
  • Support teams in identifying and managing risks before they occur.
  • Ensure compliance with HSEQ requirements, Australian Standards and operational procedures.
  • Contribute to safer ways of working through lessons learned and knowledge sharing.
Technical Assurance & Continuous Improvement
  • Review technical documentation, engineering drawings and P&IDs.
  • Develop FAT and SAT procedures and support testing activities.
  • Share insights and recommendations that improve commissioning practices and project outcomes.
  • Contribute to the development of technical standards, procedures and best practice methodologies.
About You

You are a technically capable professional who enjoys working with others to achieve successful outcomes. You build trust quickly, communicate effectively and bring a practical approach to solving complex challenges.

You’ll Bring
  • Tertiary qualifications in Mechanical Engineering or a recognised Mechanical Trade qualification.
  • Significant experience within gas transmission, gas distribution, utilities, energy or related infrastructure environments.
  • Experience planning and coordinating commissioning activities for high-pressure gas facilities and pipelines.
  • Experience supporting or managing pipeline inline inspection (ILI) programs.
  • Strong knowledge of commissioning processes, including pressure testing, isolations, purging, gas introduction and operational handover.
  • Experience preparing commissioning plans, procedures, inspection and test plans (ITPs) and completion documentation.
  • The ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications and technical documentation.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and relationship-building skills.
  • Excellent organisational, communication and technical writing capabilities.
  • A current driver’s licence and willingness to travel when required.
