Job summary

Hamilton Island is seeking passionate Commis Chefs to join our culinary teams across the island, with opportunities in over 21 bars and restaurants. You will assist in food prep and service, uphold high standards of quality and presentation, and learn from experienced chefs in a fast-paced kitchen.

Qualifications

• Certificate III in Commercial Cookery or equivalent.
• Experience in a hotel, restaurant or reputable commercial kitchen.
• Strong knowledge of food safety and hygiene requirements.
• Positive attitude and willingness to learn.
• Ability to work varied shifts, including mornings, evenings, weekends and public holidays.
• Australian working rights for at least six months.

Responsibilities

• Assist with food preparation and service across restaurants, cafes and event venues.

• Support stock rotation, storage and waste management.

Your Role

As a Commis Chef, you’ll work alongside experienced culinary professionals to deliver consistently high standards of food quality and presentation. You’ll support food preparation and service across our restaurants, cafes and event venues while developing your skills in a fast-paced and supportive kitchen environment.

• Prepare and cook high-quality dishes under the guidance of senior chefs.
• Support daily preparation and service across a variety of kitchen sections.
• Ensure all dishes meet quality, presentation and portion standards.
• Maintain food safety, hygiene and cleanliness requirements.

• Work collaboratively with the kitchen team to deliver smooth and efficient service.

To Be Successful, You Will Need:

• Certificate III in Commercial Cookery or an equivalent qualification (Essential).
• Previous experience in a hotel, restaurant or reputable commercial kitchen.
• Strong knowledge of food safety and hygiene requirements.
• A positive attitude, strong work ethic and willingness to learn.
• Ability to work varied shifts, including mornings, evenings, weekends and public holidays.
• Valid working rights in Australia for a minimum of six months.
• Open Australian driver licence preferred for some roles.
