Job summary

Eureka 89, the premium dining space atop Eureka Tower in Melbourne, is seeking a casual Commis Chef to join the kitchen brigade. This hands-on role suits a developing chef aiming to sharpen skills in a fast-paced, premium dining and events environment.

You will work across menus, canapés, desserts, pastries, and mise en place, with responsibility for preparing ingredients, running sections, and assisting with the pass. A focus on food safety and teamwork is essential.

Qualifications

  • 1+ year experience in a similar kitchen role
  • Formal culinary qualification (Commercial Cookery)
  • Safe Food Handling Certificate or willingness to obtain one
  • Australian working rights
  • Clear communication and attention to detail
  • Safety-focused and hygienic approach

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and cook ingredients to a high standard
  • Support delivery of premium dining & events menus

Job Description

We're looking for an enthusiastic and driven Commis Chef to join Eureka 89's kitchen brigade on a casual basis. This hands-on role is ideal for a developing chef who wants to sharpen their skills in a fast-paced, premium dining & events environment, working across carefully executed menus, elegant canapés, desserts, entrées and high-quality mise en place.

  • Preparing & cooking ingredients with pride to a consistently high standard
  • Supporting the delivery of premium dining & event menus, including entrée, dessert, pastry & canapé preparation
  • Running sections with minimal supervision & assisting with the pass when required
  • Producing efficient, high-quality mise en place & setting up kitchen stations for smooth service
  • Working closely with the kitchen brigade, Front of House & Events teams to deliver standout guest experiences
  • Maintaining excellent food safety, hygiene, labelling, allergen awareness & stock rotation practices
  • Helping minimise waste, keep the kitchen clean and safe, and uphold all WHS & operational standards
  • Bringing flexibility, energy and a team-first mindset to a dynamic seven-day operation

About the Candidate

The successful candidate will be a passionate, reliable and detail-focused chef who is hungry to learn, proud of their craft, and excited by the idea of cooking in one of Melbourne's most iconic venues. They'll thrive in a busy kitchen, communicate clearly and bring a positive, can-do attitude to every service.

To be successful in this role, you will bring:

  • At least 1 year's experience in a similar kitchen role
  • A formal culinary qualification, such as Commercial Cookery (or similar)
  • Safe Food Handling Certificate (or willingness to obtain one)
  • Confidence preparing ingredients & running sections independently
  • Intermediate cooking skills, strong presentation standards & genuine pride in producing quality food
  • Excellent communication, attention to detail & a collaborative approach
  • A safety-focused mindset & commitment to hygiene, consistency & continuous improvement
  • Australian working rights
