Job summary

Journey Beyond is seeking a casual Kitchen Hand to support our Eureka 89 kitchen in Melbourne. You will help keep the kitchen clean, assist chefs, and ensure food safety standards are met in a fast-paced environment.

The role involves standing for long periods, lifting up to 20kg, and flexible hours across weekdays and weekends. A Food Handling Safety Certificate is essential or obtainable on commencement.

Qualifications

• Food Handling Safety Certificate is essential, or willingness to obtain on commencement.
• Minimum 1 year experience in a similar role in a kitchen environment.
• Ability to work quickly and safely with minimal supervision.
• Fluent in English with good communication.
• Entitlement to work in Australia.

Responsibilities

• Assist with maintaining a clean kitchen area and equipment to comply with food safety guidelines.
• Prepare food and support Chefs under their supervision to ensure efficient service delivery.
• Lift and move stock weighing up to 20kg as required.
• Work in shifts that may include evenings and weekends, up to 10 hours per day (07:00–01:00).
• Collaborate with team to ensure smooth kitchen operations.

About the Role

We are seeking a casual Kitchen Hand who is motivated, passionate and driven by working in a fast-paced kitchen. In this hands-on role, you will be responsible for assisting with maintaining a clean kitchen area & equipment to comply with food safety guidelines, preparing food, and supporting our Chefs under their supervision to ensure efficient service delivery of food.

The Kitchen Hand will be based predominantly in the Eureka 89 kitchen and will spend large periods of time on their feet, be exposed to heating elements, work in tight confined spaces, and wet/slippery environments. The shifts may involve irregular hours and extended working periods. They will also be required to lift and move stock weighing up to 20kg, as well as conduct repetitive actions in line with normal culinary duties.

You may be required to work any of the seven days of the calendar week and gazetted public holidays. A standard working day can consist of up to 10 working hours, within the hours of 07:00hrs and 01:00hrs.

Qualifications

• Food Handling Safety Certificate (essential, or willing to obtain upon commencement)
• Minimum 1 year experience in a similar role, with previous Kitchen hand experience
