Job summary

Novotel Geelong is seeking a casual Commis Chef to join our vibrant kitchen team. You will rotate through kitchen sections, learn from experienced chefs, and contribute to delivering memorable dining experiences for guests.

As part of a dynamic, award-winning hotel, you’ll develop your skills, work varied shifts (early mornings, evenings, weekends, holidays) and participate in our supportive culture with global Accor opportunities.

Qualifications

• Certificate IV in Commercial Cookery is required.
• Experience in fast-paced kitchen environments.
• Strong communication and organisational skills.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate preparation and production of food as required.
• Prepare and present menu items with variety and flair.
• Maintain stock control to minimize wastage and ensure efficient operations.
• Keep all work areas clean and equipment maintained.
• Assist with HACCP/food safety compliance and kitchen cleanliness.
• Assist with placing and receiving food orders as needed.

Job Description:

As Commis Chef, you'll play a hands-on role in preparing fresh, high-quality dishes that showcase Geelong's best produce. Working closely with the kitchen leaders, you'll rotate through different sections of the kitchen, learning new techniques, and support the delivery of exceptional dining experiences for our guests.

Responsibilities include:

• Work with and coordinate the preparation and production of food as required
• Prepare and present menu items showing variety and flair
• Ensure strict stock rotation and minimum wastage, whereby you will be responsible for implementing and maintaining stock control procedures
• Keep all working areas clean and tidy - ensuring all equipment is maintained, serviced and cleaned
• Assist with the implementation and maintenance of programs to ensure high standards of cleanliness and organisation within the kitchen and related outlets
• Assist with ordering necessary food items according to business needs and demands.

About You:

• Experience as a Commis chef within a fast pace, dynamic environment
• A certificate IV in Commercial Cookery
• Advanced communication skills
• Ability to work under pressure
• Excellent organisational skills & grooming standards
• Understanding of and the ability to maintain food safety standards and HACCP
• Customer service driven and have the capacity to multitask
• Available to work varied shifts, including early mornings, late evenings, weekends, and public holidays.
