Job summary

Metcash is Australia’s leading wholesale distributor of grocery, liquor and hardware, backing independent retailers to compete and thrive. This Commercial Manager role focuses on shaping the WA Food business, driving profitable growth and strengthening retailer partnerships.

You'll work with the State Leadership team to translate commercial strategy into practical deals, budgets and performance improvements while collaborating with Property, Finance and Supply Chain to unlock opportunities.

Qualifications

• Strong commercial acumen and a proven track record of delivering revenue growth, profitability and business improvement.
• Experience in commercial retail, commercial property, revenue growth management or related discipline.
• Solid understanding of retail economics, P&L performance, commercial models and deal structuring.
• Confidence negotiating commercial agreements and influencing retailers and senior stakeholders.
• Ability to articulate complex ideas clearly and make sound decisions in fast-paced environments.
• Results-driven and collaborative, with a genuine interest in helping independent businesses succeed.

Working closely with the State Leadership team, you’ll bring a strong retail lens to business decisions — connecting commercial strategy, property opportunities, retailer partnerships and P&L performance to deliver sustainable results.

In This Role, You Will

• Drive profitable growth: Identify opportunities to grow revenue, improve margins and strengthen the performance of our wholesale business and independent retail network.


• Make the deals count: Structure and negotiate commercial agreements, rebates and retailer arrangements that deliver sustainable, mutually beneficial outcomes.


• Bring a retail lens: Understand retail P&Ls, assess commercial models and evaluate property and investment opportunities to support network growth and retailer success.


• Challenge the thinking: Turn data and business insights into clear recommendations, challenge assumptions and influence decisions that deliver better commercial outcomes.


• Shape strategy and performance: Partner with State leaders on business planning, budgets, forecasting and performance improvement, balancing commercial opportunity with risk and governance.


• Build strong partnerships: Work across Retail, Property, Finance, Supply Chain and other teams to unlock opportunities and turn strategy into action.

You’ll Bring

• Strong commercial acumen and a proven track record of delivering revenue growth, profitability and business improvement.


• Experience in commercial retail, commercial property, revenue growth management or a related commercial discipline.


• A solid understanding of retail economics, P&L performance, commercial models and deal structuring.


• Confidence negotiating commercial agreements and influencing retailers and senior stakeholders.


• The ability to articulate complex ideas clearly, challenge assumptions constructively and make sound decisions in ambiguous, fast-paced environments.
