Job summary

ThompsonCook | We Only Do Accounting in Melbourne's eastern suburbs is seeking a Commercial Analyst for an immediate start in a hybrid, full-time role. You will turn financial and operational data into timely reporting and insight to support decision-making across performance reporting, FP&A and tender costing.

Reporting to the Finance Manager, you will contribute to month-end close, budgeting and reforecasts, and partner with operational managers to explain variances and drive improvements.

Qualifications

• Degree in commerce, business, accounting or finance; CA/CPA desirable.
• 2+ years in commercial finance, FP&A or management reporting.
• Strong Excel skills with financial modeling.
• Experience in disability, aged care, NDIS or tender costing is valued.

Responsibilities

• Prepare month-end performance reporting by stream, program and entity.
• Produce weekly reporting on hours, utilisation, occupancy and labour cost.
• Assist with budgeting, reforecasts, and maintenance of financial models.
• Build service costing models for tenders and pricing reviews.
• Prepare business cases and benchmark against external measures.
• Support month-end close tasks including accruals, prepayments and journals.

The Opportunity

Our client is a well established Australian disability and community services provider.

Reporting to the Finance Manager, with exposure to the Financial Controller, CFO and Senior Management Team, this role will turn financial and operational data into timely reporting and insight that helps leaders make better decisions.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with strong data skills and initiative who enjoys explaining the numbers to finance and non-finance stakeholders, and who wants broad exposure across reporting, planning, commercial analysis and the month end close.

The Challenge

Some of your key responsibilities will include:

• Preparing month end performance reporting by stream, program and entity, and explaining variances to budget and forecast
• Producing weekly reporting on financial and non financial drivers such as hours delivered, utilisation, occupancy and labour cost
• Supporting the annual budget and regular reforecasts, including maintaining models and reviewing submissions from operational managers
• Building service costing models for tenders, new services and pricing reviews, reflecting award costs, on costs, NDIS pricing and overheads
• Preparing business cases and benchmarking performance against external measures
• Assisting with month end close tasks such as accruals, prepayments, journals and balance sheet reconciliations

The Expertise

• Degree in commerce, business, accounting or finance, with CA/CPA (completed or in progress) desirable
• 2+ years' experience in commercial finance, FP&A or management reporting
• Strong Excel skills, with experience building and maintaining financial models
• Solid accounting knowledge and an understanding of the P&L and its non financial drivers
• Experience in disability, aged care, NDIS or other labour intensive services, or in costing for tenders, would be valued
• Clear communication skills, including with non-finance audiences, and a continuous improvement mindset
