This is a varied, performance-focused role supporting students from Primary through Year 12, including choirs, instrumental ensembles, Elective Music students, HSC Music students, soloists, productions and major events.

The successful applicant will be an exceptional pianist and collaborative musician who can prepare repertoire efficiently, sight-read at a high level, work calmly with young musicians and adapt to the changing demands of a busy school performance calendar. The role is based across Woollahra and Bondi, with travel between campuses forming part of the working day.

The position reports ultimately to the Principal, with day-to-day direction provided by the Heads of Music (Performance & Academic), according to the nature of the work.

This role requires attendance during term breaks and professional weeks to undertake preparation, planning, administrative and performance-related activities necessary to support the Music Department's programs, events and functions and ensure readiness for the term ahead.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Accompanying choirs and instrumental ensembles.
  • Preparing, rehearsing and accompanying student soloists and ensembles for weekly assemblies, recitals, assessments, HSC performances, competitions, concerts, musical productions, special events, excursions and tours across a broad repertoire and varied styles.
  • Collaborating closely with Music staff and contributing to musical coaching and performance preparation.
  • Undertaking independent practice, score preparation and forward planning, including during non-term professional weeks.
  • Coordinating and communicating schedules and rehearsals with staff and students.
  • Assisting with student duty of care at rehearsals, performances, events, excursions and tours.
  • Contributing collegially to department planning, major projects and professional development.
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:
  • An undergraduate or postgraduate degree majoring in Piano Performance or Collaborative Piano, or equivalent professional training and experience.
  • Exceptional sight-reading, aural and ensemble skills, including fluency in conventional notation and chord charts.
  • Strong performance skills and recent professional performance experience across a range of styles.
  • Excellent collaborative and rehearsal instincts, with the ability to follow conductors and directors and support soloists sensitively.
  • Experience engaging Primary and High School students and guiding them with patience, clarity and high expectations to achieve excellence.
  • A calm, flexible and reliable approach to balancing priorities.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, fostering positive relationships with students, parents and colleagues.
  • Strong organisational and administrative skills to manage schedules, rehearsals, repertoire and deadlines.
  • Willingness to work outside the regular school day for early morning rehearsals, evening performances, and selected weekend events including Sundays, excursions and tours, as arranged in advance.
  • Arranging skills and familiarity with music technology software or keyboard programming are desirable.
  • A current NSW Working with Children Check.
  • Classroom teaching qualifications are not required.
