Job summary

ALS is seeking a Casual Coal Quality Tester to join the Bowen team at Abbot Point. The role offers on-site work with training provided to become proficient in coal quality assessment and reporting.

Ideal candidates are local to Bowen with a strong safety focus, good numeracy and literacy, and the ability to handle 12-hour shifts on a flexible roster. A valid driver’s license and comfort with technology are required.

• Comfort with computers and tabulating data in spreadsheets.

Responsibilities

• Ensure all work is carried out safely and to SOPs.
• Enter validated results into the reporting system.
• Perform analytical tests such as Total Moisture.
• Conduct physical tests including sample prep, crushing, dividing and storage.

About the Position

An excellent opportunity has become available for Casual Coal Quality Tester to work Abbot Point Coal terminal. We are looking for enthusiastic local people who are looking for an opportunity to be trained as Coal Quality Tester and become a part of the Ports team, based in Bowen.

Day to Day

• Ensuring that all work is carried out in a safe & efficient manner and to agreed standard operating instructions.
• Enter validated results into the reporting system.
• A range of analytical tests including Total Moisture.
• A range of physical tests including sample preparation, crushing, dividing and sample storage.

Full training will be provided to successful candidates. However, to be considered for this position, you will have:

• Good grasp of computers/technology including spreadsheets.
• Comfortable with manual handling duties.
• Ability to work to a flexible roster and willingness to work 12-hour day, day or night shifts.
• Valid Driver’s License.
• Competent within a strong safety culture.

As part of the selection process, a pre-employment medical exam is required, including a drug and alcohol assessment.
