Job summary

VDI Australia in Sydney is seeking a dedicated Coach Body Builder to join our production team, working on the build, modification, and fit-out of high-quality buses to meet customer specifications and Australian safety standards. You will contribute to assembly, trimming, and finishing tasks, with emphasis on MIG welding, sheet-metal fabrication, and precise recreation of drawings.

Qualifications

• Trade qualification as a Coach Body Builder or equivalent essential.
• Minimum 2 years of experience working as Coach Body Builder in the automotive industry.
• Valid driver’s license is required.
• Knowledge of relevant safety standards.

Responsibilities

• Assist with pre-delivery inspections and final preparation of new buses
• Assemble, modify, and fit bus components and accessories to technical specifications
• Install passenger seating, interior trims, flooring, linings, seals, locks, and fittings
• Fabricate and customise components to meet customer and operational requirements
• Read and interpret drawings, blueprints, and work instructions
• Perform basic welding, riveting, bolting, and other fabrication tasks
• Measure, cut, fit, and repair trim materials including fabric, vinyl, and leather
• Identify defects and carry out quality checks throughout the build process
• Maintain a clean, organised, and safe work environment
• Follow all workplace health, safety, and compliance requirements

Vehicle Dealers International (VDI) is the sole Australian distributor of Yutong buses.

About the Role

Working within our production and workshop environment, you will play a vital role in the construction, modification, assembly, and finishing of high-quality buses that meet customer requirements and Australian safety standards.

This hands-on position is ideal for someone with strong fabrication, assembly, trimming, and vehicle fit-out experience who takes pride in delivering exceptional workmanship.

Key Responsibilities

About You

To be successful in this role, you will:

• Have MIG welding skills (required) - TIG welding skills desirable
• Be competent on Sheet Metal Guillotine and Pan Brake Folder
• Have a willingness work outside of trade skill set assisting other trades with some duties where required
• Have excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Be self-motivated and dedicated to high-quality work and being part of a team
• Have a trade certificate (Coach Builder/Motor Body Builder, or other automotive trade qualifications) or having demonstrated experience in the bus industry will be highly regarded
• Have a HR Licence preferred / MR Licence required as minimum
• Have a Forklift Ticket (desirable)
• Show a dedicated commitment to safety and quality assurance
