Job summary

Next Day Recruitment in Sydney's Northern Beaches is seeking a hands-on Machinist, fitter or technician who enjoys programming, setting and operating a range of manual and CNC tools.

You will program and set 5-axis DMG MORI machines using CAM software, apply lean machining to improve efficiency, machine and assemble components from technical drawings, and perform tight tolerance inspections with micrometers, verniers and CMM.

Qualifications

• Trade-qualified machinist, fitter or technician with hands-on CNC programming experience.
• 3+ years CNC programming and operating experience (not just operating).
• Australian Citizenship or Permanent Residency; no sponsorship available.

Responsibilities

• Program, set, and operate manual and CNC tools, including 5-axis DMG MORI using CAM software.
• Apply lean machining principles to improve efficiency and reduce downtime.
• Machine, fit, assemble, and refurbish components from technical drawings.

• Collaborate with the supervisor and team to complete jobs safely and to standards.

The Company & You

You will be joining a long-established, Australian-owned precision manufacturing and engineering business based on Sydney's Northern Beaches. They design, build, and support specialised mechanical equipment and high-integrity metal components for mission-critical industries.
This is a hands-on role suited to a trade-qualified Machinist, Fitter, or Technician who genuinely enjoys programming, setting, and operating machinery.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Machining & Programming: Program, set, and operate a range of manual and CNC machine tools (including 5-axis DMG MORI using CAM software).
• Apply lean machining principles to improve efficiency and reduce downtime.
• Component Precision: Machine, fit, assemble, and refurbish mechanical components and engineered equipment from technical drawings.
• Quality & Inspection: Hold tight tolerances and inspect finished parts using micrometers, verniers, and CMM to verify quality.
• Maintenance: Carry out routine preventative maintenance on workshop machinery.
• Teamwork: Work closely with the workshop supervisor and wider team to complete jobs safely and to strict industry standards.
