Job description

A well-established precision engineering company in regional Australia is seeking an experienced CNC Lathe and/or Manual Lathe Machinist to join our production team. We specialise in high-quality, low-to-medium volume component manufacturing across a range of industries.

This role is suited to a tradesperson or highly experienced operator who can work autonomously, maintain tight tolerances, and contribute to continuous improvement on the shop floor.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Set up, program and operate CNC lathes and/or manual lathes
  • Interpret and work from detailed engineering drawings, CAD models, and job sheets
  • Select appropriate tooling, speeds, and feeds for various materials (mild steel, stainless, aluminium, alloys)
  • Perform first-off inspections and in-process quality control using precision measuring instruments (micrometers, verniers, bore gauges, thread gauges)
  • Maintain dimensional tolerances and surface finish requirements to specification
  • Edit programs and offsets to optimise machining efficiency and tool life
  • Conduct routine preventative maintenance and ensure machines are kept in optimal working condition
  • Contribute to process improvements, tooling strategies, and lean manufacturing practices
  • Trade qualification in Engineering (Machining) or equivalent industry experience
  • Demonstrated experience with turning CNC/Manual (Fanuc controls preferred)
  • Strong G-code knowledge and ability to edit programs
  • Proven ability to hold tight tolerances and produce repeatable, high-quality components
  • Solid understanding of cutting tools, inserts, work holding, and machining principles
  • Competence in reading and interpreting complex technical drawings
  • High level of attention to detail and commitment to workplace safety
  • Reliable and punctual
  • Experience with CAD/CAM software
  • Multi-axis machining experience
