Job summary

Category 5 Labour Management in Gladstone, QLD is seeking a Trade Qualified Fitter/Machinist to operate and maintain mining and heavy engineering equipment. You will perform machining tasks, inspections, and daily machine upkeep to ensure safety and quality compliance.

You will work Monday to Friday with overtime available; initial casual duration is 3 months with potential to move to permanent direct with the client. A current driver’s licence is essential.

Qualifications

• Trade qualification as fitter/machinist required.
• 3–5 years post-trade experience.
• Conventional machining experience advantageous.
• Current driver’s licence.

Responsibilities

• Comply with Quality, Safety and Environmental requirements.
• Undertake machining operations on mining and heavy equipment, including valves and pumps.
• Prepare reports detailing detected defects.
• Compile inspection reports with final measurements.
• Undertake and record calibrations of tooling.
• Report to Supervisor on issues affecting machine performance.
• Daily maintenance of machines and tooling.
• Present ideas for workshop improvements to leads.
• Supervise apprentices assigned to them.
• Provide technical support across the organisation.
• Contribute to continual QSE improvements.

Key Responsibilities

• Comply with Quality, Safety and Environmental requirements
• Undertake Machining operations on a wide range of mining and heavy engineering equipment, including valves, pumps, rolling stock, etc
• Preparation of reports detailing defects detected
• Compiling inspection reports including final measurements
• Undertaking and recording calibrations of tooling
• Report to the Supervisor on any issues affecting machine performance, calibration issues and/or other non-conformances.
• Daily maintenance of machines and tooling
• Present ideas for improvements to workshop process to leading hand/supervisor
• Supervision of apprentices assigned to them
• Provide technical support throughout the organisation.
• Participate in the continual improvement of the Quality, Safety and Environmental Management Systems by giving feedback on the organisation.

Skills & Experience

• Trade Qualified Fitter/Machinist (Essential)
• 3-5 Years post trade experience
• Conventional machining experience would be advantageous
• Current Drivers Licence
