Job summary

Intrinzic in Sydney is seeking a Cloud Site Reliability Engineer to own reliability of real-time payments infrastructure. You will operate and improve cloud and platform infrastructure across AWS and Kubernetes, with a strong focus on availability, resilience, and security.

You will be the first responder to incidents, drive MTTR/MTTD improvements, and build robust CI/CD pipelines and observability. The role is hybrid with a couple of days in the Sydney office, and candidates should be

Qualifications

• Hands-on experience in SRE in complex, highly available environments.
• Strong AWS and Kubernetes depth with networking knowledge.
• Infrastructure as code as your default way of working (Terraform, CloudFormation, CDK or Ansible).
• CI/CD you have built and owned on GitHub, GitLab or Bitbucket, with solid observability.

Responsibilities

Intrinzic are proud to be partnering with one of the most important organisations in Australia in the search for a Cloud Site Reliability Engineer.

This organisation is a leader in the domestic payments infrastructure that this country sits on - the rails underneath the card payments, the bill payments and the real-time transfers that move money between Australians every day.

Reliability is not a 'nice-to-have' on a platform like this one. When it works nobody notices, and when it does not, the country notices immediately. The environment is AWS and Kubernetes, infrastructure as code is the default rather than the aspiration, and there is genuine appetite to cut operational toil rather than absorb it.

What you will do

• Operate and improve the cloud and platform infrastructure, engineering for availability, resilience, performance and security.
• Act as first responder on platform incidents, work the complex reliability and capacity problems, and drive MTTD and MTTR down off the back of them.
• Engineer and optimise the AWS and Kubernetes environments across EKS, EC2, EFS, VPC and IAM.
• Build and improve the CI/CD pipelines, and automate the operational work that keeps coming back.
• Strengthen observability so problems are found by a metric rather than by a customer.
• Build resilience in properly - disaster recovery, controlled change and configuration management.

What you will need

• Hands-on SRE, cloud or platform engineering in complex, highly available environments.
• Strong AWS, ideally across EKS, EC2, EFS, VPC and IAM, with solid cloud networking underneath it.
• Real Kubernetes depth - cluster management, scaling, upgrades and optimisation, not occasional exposure.
• Infrastructure as code as how you work, through Terraform, CloudFormation, CDK or Ansible, plus Python, TypeScript or similar.
• CI/CD you have built and owned on GitHub, GitLab or Bitbucket, and a proper view on observability.
• You are based in Sydney and happy to be in the office a couple of days a week.

What will put you in front

• Cloud security, incident response and disaster recovery in a regulated or high-availability environment.
• Payments, banking or financial services.
• Experience taking a noisy, alert-heavy platform and making it quiet.

Kubernetes depth is the thing that will separate people here, and this is somewhere it gets used properly rather than occasionally. If that is where you want to be spending your week, this is well worth a conversation!
