Job summary

TAL Australia in Sydney is seeking a Data Engineer to strengthen trusted data foundations, enabling smarter decisions and better customer experiences across the business.

You will join the Data Engineering team to build reliable pipelines, governance, and scalable cloud-based data assets using Azure, Databricks and Microsoft Fabric.

Collaborate across teams to deliver practical data solutions that support TAL's purpose of protecting Australians when they need it most.

Qualifications

• Experience in data engineering, software engineering or analytics engineering within a complex environment.
• Build and support data pipelines, transformations and curated datasets for reporting, analytics or operational use.
• Cloud-based data platforms such as Azure, Microsoft Fabric, Databricks or similar technologies.
• SQL and Python or Spark to deliver reliable data solutions.
• Knowledge of data quality, governance, privacy and security practices.
• Relevant tertiary qualification in IT/CS/SC or data engineering; certifications desirable.

In This Role You Will

• Build reliable data pipelines that enable trusted reporting, analytics, operational and AI-enabled outcomes.
• Develop reusable data assets that improve consistency, reduce duplication and accelerate delivery across TAL.
• Modernise legacy data processes into secure, scalable and maintainable cloud-based solutions.
• Embed quality, lineage and governance controls to strengthen trust, transparency and data risk management.
• Optimise data workflows for performance, reliability, cost efficiency and operational resilience.
• Collaborate across teams to deliver practical, reusable solutions that meet business and customer needs.

Qualifications

• Bring experience in data engineering, software engineering or analytics engineering within a complex environment.
• Build and support data pipelines, transformations and curated datasets for reporting, analytics or operational use.
• Work confidently with cloud-based data platforms such as Azure, Microsoft Fabric, Databricks or similar technologies.
• Use SQL and relevant tools such as Python or Spark to deliver reliable, production-ready data solutions.
• Apply sound knowledge of data quality, governance, privacy, security and supportability practices.
• Hold a relevant tertiary qualification in IT, computer science, software engineering, data engineering or a related field; relevant certifications are desirable.
