Job summary

The Clinical Support Officer (CSO) will provide timely and accurate administrative/transactional services for members of the health care team within the postnatal service under the direction of the Midwifery Unit Manager of Postnatal Services. The CSO will work under broad supervision but will be required to take some independent action.

Scope exists for exercising initiative in established work practices and procedures.

Qualifications

  • Holds or is willing to undertake a Certificate III in Health Administration or equivalent.
  • Excellent communication skills including accurate spelling, good comprehension and courteous interaction at all levels.
  • Demonstrated experience in word processing, spreadsheet and database software.
  • Strong organisational skills and ability to meet deadlines.
  • Capacity to work under broad supervision and in a high pressure, high volume environment.

Responsibilities

  • Provide timely and accurate administrative/transactional services for the postnatal care team under supervision.
  • Operate under broad supervision with some independent action.
  • Support the Midwifery Unit Manager – Postnatal Services and contribute to efficient service delivery.

The Role

The Clinical Support Officer (CSO) will provide timely and accurate administrative/transactional services for members of the health care team within the postnatal service under the direction of the Midwifery Unit Manager of Postnatal Services. The CSO will work under broad supervision but will be required to take some independent action. Scope exists for exercising initiative in the application of established work practices and procedures. Decisions affecting the overall functioning and management of the Service will remain the responsibility of the Midwifery Unit Manager – Postnatal Services.

Selection Criteria
  • Holds or is willing to undertake a Certificate III in Health Administration or equivalent.
  • Excellent communication skills including accurate spelling, good comprehension, confidence in the spoken word and ability to deal confidently and courteously with people at all levels.
  • Demonstrated experience in word processing, spreadsheet and database software.
  • Strong organisational skills and ability to meet deadlines.
  • Capacity to work under broad supervision and to undertake a diverse range of tasks as an effective member of a team in a high pressure, high volume work environment.
