Job summary

Strathfield Council is seeking a dedicated Cleansing Services Officer to maintain a clean, safe public environment across the municipality. You will perform street cleaning and waste management, operating cleaning vehicles and equipment while complying with safety rules.

The role requires physical fitness, teamwork, and the ability to work various shifts, including weekends and public holidays. A White Card and a valid Australian driver’s licence are essential.

Qualifications

• Year 12 standard or equivalent with relevant training.
• TAFE Cert L1 & L2 or equivalent preferred.
• CIC White Card for construction sites and related work.

Responsibilities

• Undertake cleansing of public areas and street sweeping.
• Collect, segregate and dispose of waste per safety and recycling rules.
• Operate and maintain cleaning vehicles and equipment.
• Adhere to WHS requirements and safety procedures.
• Respond to public enquiries professionally and promptly.
• Record work and incidents accurately.

Directorate: Engineering & OperationsTeam: Civic Space MaintenanceEmployment Status: Permanent, full-timeEmployment Arrangement: 70 hours per fortnight on a 7-day rotating roster.

Position Number: POS 274Salary Range:

• Base Salary: From $65,793.00 to $75,348.00 (Grade 6, Step 1 to 4) per annum dependent upon competency step appointment.
• Allowances: Additional to Base Salary Level 2 Adverse Working Conditions Allowance & Weekend Shift Penalty rates will apply
• Level 2 Adverse Working Conditions - $2,726 per year
• Saturday Weekend Shift Penalty Allowance (based on 7.75 hours every fortnight) = $3,989
• Sunday Weekend Shift Penalty Allowance (based on 7.75 hours every fortnight) = $7,979.40
• Plus: 12% superannuation.

The successful candidate will have access to step increases for the grade based on competency assessment and tenure within this position.

The Opportunity

Strathfield Council is seeking a motivated Cleansing Services Officer to join our team.

In this role you will help maintain a clean, safe and welcoming public environment across the municipality through street cleaning and waste management activities.

What You Will Be Doing

• Undertaking general cleansing of public areas and street sweeping duties
• Collecting, segregating, and disposing of waste in line with safety and recycling procedures
• Operating and maintaining cleaning vehicles, plant, and equipment
• Ensuring all work is completed safely in accordance with WHS requirements
• Responding professionally to public enquiries and service requests
• Identifying and reporting hazards, faults, and maintenance issues
• Completing routine and deep cleaning of designated areas
• Working rotating shifts including early mornings, afternoons, nights, weekends, and public holidays
• Maintaining accurate records of work completed and incidents
• General Schooling, Year 12 Standard, or specialist training in one specific subject or skill, example – completing a TAFE Certificate Levels 1 & 2
• Demonstrated experience in driving various vehicles and plant for operation
• Be prepared to work any shift (early start, afternoon or night), weekend overtime and public holidays from various locations as required
• Ability to communicate to a level that enables the accurate interpretation of instructions
• Ability to work in a team environment and individually under limited supervision
• Possess and maintain a level of physical fitness sufficient to undertake the activities of the role
• Demonstrated commitment to a self-directed work environment and ability to take initiative to ensure gainful and productive work for each working day
• Ability to work in a team environment in a cooperative and positive manner
• Certificate for General Construction Induction (CIC – White Card) NSW

Drivers Licence Essential Requirement

Current Class C Driver Licence and willingness to obtain a Class LR Driver Licence.

Applicants who already hold a current Class LR Driver Licence are encouraged to apply.

Experience in the use of handheld equipment, operation and driving the full range of street cleaning equipment, plant, and trucks.
