Job summary

Fergus Builders in the Whitsunday region is seeking an experienced Civil Plant Operator to support local projects across build pads, carparks and subdivisions. You will operate excavators, loaders, rollers and graders with a focus on safety, quality and efficiency.

Reporting to the Civil Project Manager, you’ll perform daily pre-start checks, read site plans, keep records and assist with earthworks. The role offers stable hours on local projects and a supportive team environment with scope to

Qualifications

• Proven experience operating civil construction machinery.
• HR licence and White Card required.
• Driver's licence with reliable transport.
• Solid knowledge of civil construction methods and materials.
• Commitment to safety and quality.

Responsibilities

• Operating civil plant and machinery (excavators, loaders, rollers, GP machines).
• Completing earthworks for build pads, carparks, subdivisions and commercial projects.
• Performing daily pre-start checks and reporting maintenance needs.
• Working from site plans, levels and technical drawings.
• Maintaining accurate daily records using simple digital tools.
• Identifying site issues and contributing practical solutions.
• Maintaining high standards of safety, quality and environmental compliance.
• Keeping plant and vehicles clean and well maintained.
• Labouring tasks to assist the team as required.

Are you an experienced Civil Operator looking for secure, long-term work with a respected local company?

Fergus Builders has a strong pipeline of civil projects across the Whitsunday region, and we’re looking for a capable, hands-on operator to join our growing team.

This is a varied role working across build pads, carparks, subdivisions and commercial earthworks. You’ll operate a range of well-maintained machinery while helping the team deliver safe, accurate and high-quality results.

ABOUT THE ROLE

Reporting to the Civil Project Manager, you’ll play a key role across a variety of civil projects.

Projects range from build pads and carparks to subdivisions and more—so no two days are the same.

Key responsibilities include:

• Operating civil plant and machinery, including excavators, loaders, rollers, posi tracks, water trucks and graders

• Completing earthworks for build pads, carparks, subdivisions and commercial projects

• Performing daily pre-start checks and reporting maintenance requirements

• Working from site plans, levels and technical drawings

• Maintaining accurate daily records using basic digital reporting tools

• Identifying site issues and contributing practical solutions

• Maintaining high standards of safety, quality and environmental compliance

• Keeping plant and vehicles clean and well maintained

• Labouring tasks to assist the team as required.

ABOUT YOU

Essential:

• Demonstrated experience operating civil construction machinery

• Current HR licence

• Current White Card

• Current driver’s licence and reliable transport

• Sound knowledge of civil construction methods and materials

• Strong commitment to safety and quality

• Reliable, organised and team-focused approach

• Willingness to grow with the role

Highly regarded:

• Final Trim and GPS experience

• Grader operating experience

• Subdivision or commercial earthworks experience

• Ability to read plans, levels and technical drawings

• Previous experience leading or coordinating site activities
