A substantial privately owned Australian business is seeking an experienced Chief Executive Officer to lead it through an important period of leadership succession and organisational development.
Operating across several asset-intensive, project-based and industrial markets, the organisation brings together a diverse workforce spanning field operations, technical services, project delivery, manufacturing and corporate functions. It has experienced strong growth and is now entering a period in which consolidating performance, embedding leadership disciplines and preparing for the next cycle of opportunity will be critical.
The organisation has recently introduced a new operating model, established refreshed Executive and Senior Leadership Teams, embedded organisational values and implemented a performance framework. The incoming CEO will therefore join a business with a stronger and more scalable foundation, together with a clear mandate to convert that platform into sustained performance.
Reporting to the Board, the CEO will:
Set and execute a clear strategic direction
Lead commercial and operational performance across a diverse portfolio
Strengthen accountability, decision-making and leadership disciplines
Maintain a strong focus on safety, governance and enterprise risk
Protect margin and improve organisational performance
Build leadership depth and manage the transfer of critical organisational knowledge
Develop a high-performing and connected executive team
Position the organisation for sustainable future growth
This is not simply a growth mandate. It is an opportunity to lead a successful business through a significant succession moment, respecting the strengths that have shaped it while building the capability required for its future.
The successful candidate will bring:
CEO, Managing Director, General Manager or comparable enterprise leadership experience
A record of leading a complex, asset-intensive, operationally focused or project-based business
Strong financial and commercial capability, including responsibility for profit, margin, risk and investment decisions
Experience leading multidisciplinary operational, technical and corporate teams
Demonstrated success strengthening leadership capability and organisational performance
High emotional intelligence and the judgement to balance continuity with change
A practical, visible and grounded leadership approach
Strong Board engagement and stakeholder management capability
An unwavering commitment to safety and responsible governance
Candidates may come from civil infrastructure, construction, resources services, marine operations, quarrying and construction materials, manufacturing, fabrication, engineering, logistics, heavy equipment, industrial contracting or similarly complex operational environments.
Experience within a privately or family-owned enterprise would be valuable. More important, however, will be the candidate’s ability to build trust, understand established relationships and lead with humility as well as authority.
An attractive executive remuneration package, including a significant annual incentive linked to financial performance and broader strategic, safety and cultural outcomes, will be offered.
