Job summary

Green Leaves Early Learning – Devonport TAS is seeking a Chef to lead our kitchen for children aged 6 weeks to 6 years. You will plan nutritious menus, prepare meals, and manage stock, budgeting, and ordering with strong food safety practices.

You will mentor a kitchen hand and collaborate with Educators to run culinary classes, while meeting Green Leaves standards and regulatory requirements. This role supports wellbeing and offers a comprehensive perks package.

Qualifications

• Certificate III in Commercial Cookery or equivalent.
• Food Safety Certificate
• Current Senior First Aid, CPR, Anaphylaxis, and Asthma certificates
• State relevant Working with Children Check, Blue Card, or Safety Screening
• Current Child Protection Training
• Current First Aid and CPR (HLTAID012)
• National Police Clearance obtained in the last 6 months

Responsibilities

• Use mastery knowledge of cooking to plan menus for children aged 6 weeks to 6 years.
• Prepare a variety of nutritious meals and purees, meeting dietary requirements.
• Manage kitchen autonomously including stock rotation, budgeting and shopping.
• Ensure highest level of food safety and compliance with Food Authority requirements and Green Leaves standards.
• Mentor and guide a kitchen hand to deliver high quality food and service.
• Provide culinary classes alongside Educators for young learners.

• Confidently managing the kitchen autonomously, ensuring effective stock rotation, budgeting, and shopping for your kitchen
• Ensuring the highest level of food safety and supervision in accordance with the Food and Council Authority requirements and Green Leaves Early Learning Standards
• Mentoring and guiding a kitchen hand in a professional environment, to deliver the highest quality of food and service
• Providing thoughtful culinary classes alongside our Educators to our littlest learners

About You:

• At least a Certificate III in Commercial Cookery
• Current Food Safety Supervisor Certificate
• Current and State-relevant Working with Children Check
• Current Child Protection and National Child Safety Training Certificates
• Current First Aid and CPR (HLTAID012)
• National Police Clearance obtained in the last 6 months

Essential Qualifications/Experience/Skills:

• Certificate III in Commercial Cookery or equivalent
• Food Safety Certificate
• Current Senior First Aid, CPR, Anaphylaxis, and Asthma certificates
• State relevant Working with Children Check, Blue Card, or Safety Screening
• Current Child Protection Training
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Highly organized with proven experience juggling a wide range of demands and priorities, and managing time effectively
• Ability to work from 6.30 am to 2.30 pm in line with the opening of the Centre each day.
• Knowledge and experience with Qikkids and Educa (or similar equivalent platforms)
• Intermediate-level skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Facebook
