Job summary

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Plan and prepare menu items for breakfast, brunch, lunch, salads, sandwiches, and seasonal specials.
  • Design and contribute to new menu items and rotating specials.
  • Cook using grilling, roasting, baking, poaching, sautéing, and steaming.
  • Ensure meals are presented to a high standard.
  • Monitor food quality from prep to plate.
  • Manage kitchen operations during busy service periods.
  • Order supplies and monitor stock to minimise waste.
  • Maintain freshness and proper storage of ingredients and equipment.

Position Summary

The Chef is responsible for planning, preparing, and overseeing the production of high-quality wholefoods restaurant meals while maintaining food safety, kitchen efficiency, and consistent presentation standards. The role requires the ability to manage kitchen operations in a fast-paced restaurant environment with a focus on fresh, healthy, and seasonal menu offerings.

Key Responsibilities
  • Planning and preparing menu items including breakfast, brunch, lunch meals, salads, sandwiches, baked items, and seasonal specials.
  • Designing and contributing to new menu items and rotating specials in line with customer preferences and wholefoods restaurant concepts.
  • Preparing and cooking food using various cooking techniques including grilling, roasting, baking, poaching, sautéing, and steaming.
  • Ensuring all meals are prepared and presented consistently to a high standard.
  • Monitoring food quality at all stages of preparation and presentation.
  • Managing kitchen operations during busy service periods and coordinating workflow efficiently.
  • Ordering food supplies and kitchen inventory while monitoring stock levels and minimising wastage.
  • Inspecting and maintaining the quality and freshness of ingredients and ensuring proper food storage procedures.
  • Ensuring compliance with NSW food safety regulations, hygiene standards, and workplace health and safety requirements.
  • Supervising and training kitchen staff in food preparation techniques, kitchen procedures, and safe food handling practices.
  • Assisting in rostering and coordinating kitchen staff where required.
  • Monitoring portion control and food costs to assist in maintaining profitability.
  • Maintaining cleanliness and organisation of kitchen equipment, workstations, and storage areas.
  • Collaborating with management regarding menu development, seasonal offerings, and operational improvements.
Skills And Experience Required
  • Relevant qualification equivalent to an Australian Certificate IV in Commercial Cookery or higher, or at least three years of relevant work experience.
  • Experience working in a café, restaurant, or wholefoods kitchen environment.
  • Strong knowledge of food safety and hygiene procedures.
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong organisational and time management skills.
  • Ability to supervise and work collaboratively with kitchen staff.
  • Knowledge of healthy, fresh, and seasonal food preparation preferred

Expected Salary: $79,500 - $85,000 AUD per year
