Job summary

Commonwealth Bank is seeking a Control Assurance Senior Manager within Retail Banking Services to lead controls assurance activities and drive improvements in risk and compliance across the BU. The role focuses on end-to-end risk governance, design and embedding of controls, and providing robust feedback for enhancements.

• Support RBS to design and implement preventative controls for better risk outcomes.
• Ensure effective design of controls for new or changing processes and oversee implementation.
• Support lead RBS in designing, developing and embedding a continuous assurance model.
• Assist RBS Line 1 Risk teams to embed controls and recommend enhancements.
• Manage Control Assurance Program (CAP) testing, review test plans and report findings.

The Controls Automation & Innovation team is responsible for ensuring that strong controls are in place and decisions are well informed, timely and socialised. They achieve this through providing an end-to-end risk and control service, including the effective design & implementation of controls, ensuring the operational risk & compliance frameworks are effectively implemented in their BU’s and ensuring each BU LT has the right level of comfort and governance within their risk environment.

Your Impact:

The Control Assurance Senior Manager will be responsible for Controls Assurance activities in line with the control assurance framework for Retail Banking Services (RBS) Line 1 team.

In any given week you will be responsible for:

• Supporting RBS to design and implement preventative controls enabling better risk and compliance outcomes.
• Ensuring the effective design of controls for new and changing processes and operations and support the business through the implementation.
• Supporting lead RBS in the design, development, and embedment of a continuous assurance model.
• Assisting the RBS Line 1 Risk teams embed effective controls throughout RBS by providing robust feedback where required and recommending appropriate enhancements.
• Managing Control Assurance Program (CAP) testing, including the review of test plans, and report on assurance findings.

• A strong background in operational risk management, with expertise in Control Assurance, benchmarking, and advanced analytical procedures, gained through experience in banking or financial services.
• Proven people leadership with the ability to lead and manage large teams, motivate and support team members, foster a collaborative and inclusive culture, and drive high performance.
• Skilled in using data and analytics to test controls, solve problems, and deliver meaningful risk and assurance outcomes.
• Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships, influence decisions, and collaborate effectively with stakeholders at all levels.
• Clear and confident communicator, both in writing and verbally.
