Job description

ASC is Australia’s submarine company. We built the Royal Australian Navy’s Collins Class submarines, sustain them, and are now delivering their Life of Type Extension to increase the boats’ service lives. We have also been selected by the Australian Government to sustain and jointly build the nation’s nuclear‑powered submarines - the largest and most complex industrial undertaking in Australia’s history.

Our work is interesting and meaningful, contributing directly to Australia’s national security. We offer rewarding roles that provide the opportunity to grow your career, and the flexibility to balance life and work. A career at ASC is like no other, delivering a deeper purpose we can all be proud of.

About the Opportunity

The Certification Quality Control Officer develops Inspection and Test Plans for production work packages, ensuring they include the appropriate Objective Quality Evidence (OQE) required for the Collins Class Submarine (CCSM) certification.

Certification Quality Control Officers also audit completed work packages and OQE to ensure compliance with engineering standards, quality requirements, SUBSAFE protocols and corporate policies.

They play a key role in the Quality Planning department maintaining high quality, safe and efficient work systems that support on‑time delivery, a right first‑time philosophy and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities
  • Deliver safe, accurate and efficient Quality products and services to ASC MCS and the wider Submarine Enterprise.
  • Comply with all regulatory requirements in support of CCSM and SUBSAFE certification, WHS and ASC’s Equal Employment Opportunity and Diversity policy.
  • Ensure positive relationships are built and maintained to support MCS.
  • Maintain proactive reporting and prompt resolution for all quality control matters and certification records.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders to effectively support program outcomes.
  • The Certification Quality Technical Officer will, at times, be required to undertake shift work in order to support the achievement of program milestones.
About you
Essential Qualifications
  • Trade or Tertiary qualifications in an engineering and/or technical discipline.
  • 3‑5 years of post‑qualification experience in defence, heavy industry, or other highly regulated sectors.

  • Demonstrated experience and competency in the management and leadership of a cross‑functional team across multiple projects and locations.
  • Have high level conceptual, analytical and decision‑making skills with the ability to interpret (both ASC and customer) social, political and operating environments.
  • Problem solving at the highest level of complexity and importance that materially affect the value, viability and profitability of ASC.
  • Knowledge of submarine systems, equipment and their interrelationships.
  • Ability to read and interpret complex technical drawings and schematics.
  • Experience with CCSM maintenance requirements and quality regulations including ISO17025.
  • Eligible for Australian Department of Defence security clearance to at least Negative Vetting 1.
  • Strong communication and influencing skills across all levels – written, verbal and interpersonal.

  • Ability to manage priorities and achieve deadlines within a fast‑paced environment.
  • Ability to obtain Critical Systems (TS‑138) qualification post‑employment.
  • Ability to obtain SUBSAFE Level 2 Engineering qualification post‑employment.

This role requires a current National Police Clearance and an Australian Defence Security Clearance. Your eligibility for this role is dependent on you obtaining and maintaining such clearance.

Whilst ASC will accept all applications for this role, as this role requires an ability to access protected US defence technology, applicants holding nationality of certain foreign countries will not be eligible.
