A career at ASC is like no other, delivering a deeper purpose we can all be proud of.

About the Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer to provide technical leadership across complex defence engineering projects, supporting upgrades to submarine systems. In this role, you will develop engineering decisions that must be safe, practical, and fit for in‑service implementation, working closely with multidisciplinary teams across design, engineering, production and sustainment. Working to solve design issues to improve the capability and reliability of Australia’s most critical naval assets.

This is a hands‑on technical role where you will act as project lead on defined scopes of work and provide authoritative engineering advice across the organisation and to external stakeholders.

Responsibilities
  • Provide engineering leadership and technical authority across complex electrical projects.
  • Lead the design, analysis, and approval of systems, subsystems, and components while delivering multi‑disciplinary tasks or single‑discipline projects to a high standard.
  • Plan, organise, and execute engineering activities across multiple concurrent tasks with minimal supervision.
  • Perform and review engineering analysis, calculations, modelling, and component/subsystem design.
  • Prepare, review, and approve engineering artefacts, including specifications, drawings, reports, and test procedures.
  • Apply systems engineering principles across the full lifecycle of critical integration projects.
  • Provide technical guidance, mentor engineers, and contribute to team capability development.
  • Engage with internal and external stakeholders, including customers, suppliers, and regulatory authorities.
  • Support risk, opportunity, and recovery planning to address schedule or budget challenges.
  • Ensure compliance with corporate systems, safety, security, ITAR, and Defence requirements.
About You
  • Minimum 4 years engineering experience. Experience in maritime, submarine, defence or other safety‑critical environments highly regarded. Candidates from civil, infrastructure or power grid industries are encouraged to apply.
  • Experience with the design and maintenance of storage batteries, power conversion, electrical distribution switchboards & control panels, cabling & connectors, lighting, motors, generators, sensors, control systems, industrial networks, PLCs, VSDs, EMC/EMI, fire detection and/or gas detection.
  • Degree qualified engineer with eligibility for MIEAust or equivalent, with Chartered status highly regarded. Trade qualifications or equivalent experience may be considered for technical officer positions.
  • Demonstrated experience resolving technical problems in design, manufacturing, maintenance or construction environments.
  • Strong understanding of inter‑discipline engineering dependencies.
  • Well‑developed written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present to senior stakeholders.
  • Experience applying systems engineering, configuration management, technical governance and system safety principals in practical project environments.
  • Demonstrated project management capability (scope, schedule, cost, risk and integration).

This role requires a current National Police Clearance and an Australian Defence Security Clearance to a NV1 level. Your eligibility for this role is dependent on you obtaining and maintaining such clearances.
