Job summary

The Birpai Local Aboriginal Land Council (BLALC) seeks a dynamic Chief Executive Officer to lead day-to-day operations and support its elected Board. The role delivers strategic guidance, governance oversight, and effective execution of Board resolutions within a recognised Aboriginal community framework.

The CEO will steward regulatory compliance, financial stewardship, and community engagement, ensuring respectful collaboration with stakeholders and alignment to BLALC’s mission and values.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the Aboriginal Land Rights Act (ALRA).
  • Ability to interpret and apply legislation relevant to land councils and governance.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills for diverse stakeholders.
  • Proven experience in organisation and people management at senior level.
  • Familiarity with accounting practices and financial stewardship.
  • Solid understanding of Aboriginal issues and community priorities.
  • Ability to demonstrate Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander heritage may be required.

Responsibilities

  • Day‑to‑day management of the Birpai Local Aboriginal Land Council’s affairs.
  • Provide sound and accurate advice to the elected Board.
  • Implement the Board’s resolutions in a timely and appropriate manner.
