Job summary

The Greater Metropolitan Cemeteries Trust is seeking a Cemetery Operations Groundsperson - Burial based in Fawkner, VIC. This full-time, permanent role supports families and end-to-end burial and cremation processes under GMCT policy.

You will assist with grave setup, site location checks, and operate equipment, with two rostered days off per month and a focus on safety and customer service. Training will be provided on commencement.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated experience in a similar or comparable role.
• Excavator licence is desirable.
• Backhoe is desirable.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Commitment to safe manual handling practices.

Responsibilities

• Assist the team with day-to-day operations such as grave set up and presentation.
• Identify and check accurately the location of a grave site.
• Operate tractor trailer.
• Assist families and stakeholders with on-ground queries.
• Ensure that all burials and cremations occur as per GMCT policy.

• Full Time, Permanent Role
• Two RDO’s (Rostered Day Off) per month
• Salary: EBA Level 2.1 ($77,566.99+ Super)
• Location: Fawkner

The opportunity

This is an excellent opportunity to join our operations team based at Fawkner and play an integral part in supporting families and stakeholders through the delivery of a range of services.

Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Assist the team with day-to-day operations such as grave set up & presentation
• Identifying and checking accurately, the location of a grave site
• Tractor trailer operation
• Assist families and stakeholders with on-ground queries
• Ensure that all burials & cremations occur as per The Greater Metropolitan Cemeteries Trust policy

This role is the entry level for the Cemetery Operations Officer - Burial. New staff will complete a training needs analysis upon commencement and undertake training within their first 12 months of employment. Upon successful completion of a competency assessment at the end of their first 12 months, staff can progress to a Level 3.
To be successful in this position you will require:

• Demonstrated experience in a similar or comparable role
• Excavator licence (desirable)
• Backhoe (desirable)
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Understanding of manual handling techniques, with a commitment to maintaining a safe working environment
• Multilingual skills are desirable
