Job summary

IBIS Care Blakehurst is seeking Casual Catering Assistants to support meal preparation, plating and service in a warm aged care setting. You will work closely with the Cook and care team to ensure nutritious meals and a positive dining experience for residents.

The role requires at least one year of catering experience in aged care or a similar setting, strong food safety knowledge, and excellent communication and teamwork to maintain high standards of service and resident satisfaction.

Qualifications

• 1+ year catering experience in aged care or similar setting.
• Strong knowledge of food safety/handling standards and infection control.
• Awareness of modified texture diets and dietary requirements in aged care.

About the Role

As a Catering Assistant, you will support the preparation, plating, and service of meals while maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming kitchen and dining environment. Working closely with the Cook and care team, you will help ensure residents receive nutritious meals and enjoy a positive dining experience.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist with the preparation and serving of nutritious, high-quality meals in accordance with the Chef’s instructions and residents’ dietary requirements.
• Deliver meals with care, dignity and respect, ensuring residents’ individual preferences and choices are supported.
• Ensure meals are served at the correct temperature and all required food safety records are maintained.
• Follow food safety, hygiene, infection control and HACCP procedures at all times.
• Maintain a clean, safe and welcoming kitchen, servery and dining environment.
• Support a positive dining experience through attractive meal presentation and respectful interaction with residents.
• Work closely with the Care team to communicate resident feedback and report any changes in dietary needs.
• Assist with resident hydration by distributing water jugs and supporting hydration monitoring.
• Maintain accurate dietary records, including special diets, allergies and texture-modified meals.
• Monitor food wastage and contribute to waste reduction initiatives.
• Complete cleaning duties in accordance with established cleaning schedules and infection control requirements.
• Monitor food stock levels, ensure appropriate storage and stock rotation, and report replenishment needs.
• Promptly report equipment faults, maintenance requirements and potential safety hazards.
• Assist with catering for lifestyle activities, functions and special events.
• Participate in team meetings, training and ongoing development.
• Maintain a professional appearance and comply with uniform and PPE requirements.

What We’re Looking For

• Minimum one year experience as a catering assistant in the aged care industry or in a comparable role and industry.
• Sound knowledge of food safety standards, including safe food handling, storage, and infection control practices.
• Understanding of catering operations and dietary requirements within an aged care facility, including modified diets and texture-modified meals.
• Strong attention to detail and effective organisational skills to support timely and accurate meal service.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to interact respectfully with residents, families, and staff.
• Ability to contribute to a positive dining experience, including meal presentation, resident engagement, and maintaining cleanliness of the servery and dining areas.
