Art Gallery of New South Wales in Sydney CBD NSW seeks a customer‑focused retail assistant to sell art books, merchandise and publications across our outlets. You will assist with restocking, displays and process web orders, while handling cash with care and ensuring a welcoming customer experience.
The role offers a casual, hourly rate with loadings and weekend penalties. At least two years in retail, preferably with book selling, and experience with a digital POS are required.

Established in 1871, the Art Gallery of New South Wales is located in Sydney’s The Domain adjacent to the Royal Botanic Garden and near the Central Business District, the Gallery acknowledges the original custodians of this land – the Gadigal people.
The Art Gallery attracts around 2.6 million visitors annually and runs Australia’s largest education program with over 90,000 student and teacher visits per year.
With our expanded campus the Art Gallery has a new state-of-the-art building located next to our existing and much-loved building. Providing us with close to double the exhibition space, the expanded Art Gallery enables us to share more art with more people and provide more family, learning and educational programming for all our audiences.

To provide a high level of customer service whilst selling specialist art books, AGNSW merchandise and publications as well as giftware, homewares and personal accessories. Carry out general retailing duties including re-stocking, store display, cash handling, banking and processing web orders in all retail outlets across the Art Gallery.
Part of the assessment process may include additional online capability testing, skills testing or work samples in accordance with the Government Sector Employment Act 2013, therefore you may be contacted to participate.
At least two years’ experience in a busy retail environment, preferably with book selling experience.
Experience using a digital point of sale system.
Previous responsibility for retail cash handling.
