Job summary

NSW Health Pathology is seeking a Casual Medical Laboratory Assistant – Pathology Collector / Phlebotomist to support services across Cootamundra and Young. The role offers flexibility, involvement in pre-analytical work, and the chance to contribute to timely patient testing in a regional setting.

You will perform pathology collections, reception, specimen handling, and data entry while joining a supportive team and adapting to a rotating shift roster across sites.

Qualifications

• Certificate III in Pathology, Pathology Collections or Pathology Assistance, and/or previous pathology experience or ability to learn pre-analytical tasks including phlebotomy
• Demonstrated ability to manage tasks in a demanding environment with competing priorities and time constraints
• Ability to communicate effectively with colleagues and customers, internal and external
• Demonstrated problem solving and analytical skills with ability to investigate and resolve general issues
• Proficient computer skills with high attention to detail and data accuracy, and ability to operate pre-analytical equipment
• Understanding of confidentiality and proper handling of sensitive information in a laboratory setting, following relevant legislation and policies
• Willingness to participate in a 24/7 rotating shift roster, including weekends, public holidays, and night shifts
• Current NSW C-Class driver’s licence (P1 or P2 accepted) or ability to travel within the operational area

Responsibilities

• Contribute to a high-quality pathology service through pre-analytical duties including collection, receiving, and triaging specimens
• Patient registration and request entry, specimen processing and preparation for transport or delivery to laboratories
• Support a fast, accurate, and safe workflow across locations in Young and Cootamundra
