Job summary

WIN Network in Lismore is seeking a casual journalist for the WIN News service. The role focuses on researching, compiling and producing high quality news stories for weekday bulletins, with responsibility for meeting deadlines and coordinating with editors and camera crews.

You will report to the State News Director - NBN and contribute to regional news coverage, including environment, sport and politics, delivering accurate, timely stories that engage the community.

Qualifications

  • University qualification in journalism.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Understanding of how to compile a ratings-winning bulletin.
  • Knowledge of local, national and international news affecting the community.
  • Understanding and working knowledge of media law.
  • Accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Ability to meet deadlines through effective time management.
  • Ability to operate in a team environment and foster good working relationships.
  • Identify story opportunities and work with initiative and flexibility.
  • Positive work ethic and willingness to learn new systems and processes.

About the role

We are currently seeking a casual journalist for our NBN News service, based in Lismore. Working in a regional newsroom offers an experience like no other, allowing you the opportunity to take ownership of your market and report on all rounds. In areas such as the environment, sport, politics, you name it - you have the control to make a difference within the community. This environment allows you to make a difference in news and is truly rewarding work.

Reporting to the State News Director - NBN, you will be responsible for researching, compiling and producing high quality news stories for our weekday news bulletins. You'll liaise with editors and camera operators to ensure our bulletins meet deadline and are of the highest standards.

About you
  • A university qualification in journalism
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated understanding of how to compile a ratings winning bulletin
  • Knowledge of local, national and international news stories affecting the community
  • Demonstrated understanding and working knowledge of media law
  • Accuracy and excellent attention to detail
  • Ability to meet deadlines through effective time management
  • Capacity to operate in a team environment, contributing positively to working relationships
  • Ability to identify story opportunities, and operate with initiative and flexibility
  • Positive work ethic, and the ability and willingness to learn new systems and processes
