Job summary

WIN Television in Mackay is seeking an experienced journalist for WIN News. You will research, compile and produce high quality stories for weekday bulletins and work with editors and camera operators to ensure timely, accurate broadcasts.

This full-time role focuses on regional news and community impact. The ideal candidate will hold a journalism qualification with at least one year of experience, possess strong communication skills, and be proficient in meeting deadlines within a team

Qualifications

• University qualification in journalism with at least one year experience.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Understanding of compiling a ratings-winning bulletin.
• Knowledge of local, national and international news affecting the community.
• Understanding media law.
• Accuracy and attention to detail.
• Ability to meet deadlines with effective time management.
• Team-oriented with initiative and flexibility.
• Positive work ethic and willingness to learn new systems and processes.

Responsibilities

• Research, compile and produce high quality news stories for weekday bulletins.
• Liaise with editors and camera operators to ensure bulletins meet deadlines and standards.
• Work as part of a regional newsroom team in Mackay, Monday to Friday.

About the role:

We are currently seeking an experienced journalist for our WIN News service, based in Mackay. Working in a regional newsroom offers an experience like no other, allowing you the opportunity to take ownership of your market and report on all rounds. In areas such as the environment, sport, politics, you name it - you have the control to make a difference within the community. This environment allows you to make a difference in news and is truly rewarding work.

Reporting to the State News Director, you will be responsible for researching, compiling and producing high quality news stories for our weekday news bulletins. You'll liaise with editors and camera operators to ensure our bulletins meet deadline and are of the highest standards. This is a full-time position, working Monday - Friday.

About you:

• A university qualification in journalism with at least one year experience
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Demonstrated understanding of how to compile a ratings winning bulletin
• Knowledge of local, national and international news stories affecting the community
• Demonstrated understanding and working knowledge of media law
• Accuracy and excellent attention to detail
• Ability to meet deadlines through effective time management
• Capacity to operate in a team environment, contributing positively to working relationships
• Ability to identify story opportunities, and operate with initiative and flexibility
• Positive work ethic, and the ability and willingness to learn new systems and processes
