Job summary

WIN Network in Newcastle is seeking an experienced journalist to join our NBN News service. You will own the production of high-quality stories for weekday bulletins and coordinate with editors and camera crews to meet tight deadlines.

Based in Newcastle, you will report across environment, sport and politics, taking ownership of your market and delivering engaging local, national and international news to the community. The role is full-time, Monday–Friday 8:30am–5pm.

Qualifications

  • A university qualification in journalism with at least one year experience.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated understanding of how to compile a ratings winning bulletin.
  • Knowledge of local, national and international news stories affecting the community.
  • Demonstrated understanding and working knowledge of media law.
  • Accuracy and excellent attention to detail.
  • Ability to meet deadlines through effective time management.
  • Capacity to operate in a team environment, contributing positively to working relationships.
  • Ability to identify story opportunities, and operate with initiative and flexibility.
  • Positive work ethic, and the ability and willingness to learn new systems and processes.

About the role:

We are currently seeking an experienced journalist for our NBN News service, based in Newcastle. Working in a regional newsroom offers an experience like no other, allowing you the opportunity to take ownership of your market and report on all rounds. In areas such as the environment, sport, politics, you name it - you have the control to make a difference within the community. This environment allows you to make a difference in news and is truly rewarding work.

Reporting to the NBN State News Director, you will be responsible for researching, compiling and producing high quality news stories for our weekday news bulletins. You'll liaise with editors and camera operators to ensure our bulletins meet deadline and are of the highest standards. This is a full-time position, working Monday - Friday 8:30am-5pm.

About you:
  • A university qualification in journalism with at least one year experience
