Job summary

Susuru Izakaya in Newcastle CBD, NSW is seeking a Casual Cook / Kitchen Hand to join our team with immediate start. You will work in a fast-paced restaurant, contributing to food preparation and maintaining standards.

We offer an engaging, supportive team environment with opportunities to develop cooking skills and learn about Japanese cuisine. Remuneration is award-based and negotiable depending on experience and skills, with a rotating roster including weekends.

Qualifications

• At least one year of experience in a similar kitchen role.
• Confidence working in a busy restaurant environment.
• Availability for approximately 15–25 hours per week, including weekends and split shifts.
• Good understanding of food safety, hygiene and cleaning procedures.
• Positive attitude, strong work ethic, and willingness to learn.

About Us

Susuru Izakaya is a traditional Japanese ramen restaurant in Newcastle CBD that has recently been renovated and relaunched as a Japanese izakaya.

We specialise in authentic Japanese food, including house-made ramen broth and Japanese gyoza, which we produce at our own factory.

We pride ourselves on creating a friendly, supportive, and positive working environment where team members can develop their cooking skills, gain valuable industry experience, and learn about Japanese cuisine.

Our diverse team includes people from a range of cultural backgrounds, including international students, making Susuru a great place to work, learn, and share different cultures.

About the Role

We are looking for motivated and reliable Casual Cooks / Kitchen Hands to join our team, with an immediate start available.

We welcome team members who take pride in their work, maintain high standards, and enjoy working in a fast-paced restaurant environment.

Successful candidates must be flexible and available to work across a rotating roster, including weekends, public holidays, and split shifts where required.
